Day 9! We’re halfway through! As I’ve said before, July 8’s birthday countdown art challenge prompt is “Connected”… The reason? Is because it’s connected to day 9’s artwork! Here, I drew a cat. Do the math… That’s 8 bunnies and 1 cat. Yep! We got 9 adorable balls of fluff! Hah! Didn’t see that one coming, did'ya? Anyways! Happy birthday to those born in the 9th of July. May you carry your years with a beautiful smile! Have a nice day!

Day 8 of my Birthday Countdown Art Challenge! The prompt is Connected and you’ll see why after day 9! Though here, I just decided to draw bunnies… Because… Why not? The bunny in front is a significant one… I won’t tell why… For now… Happy birthday to those born in July 8! May you shine on and always feel great!

Day 7 of my Birthday Countdown Art Challenge! Today’s prompt is quite obviously, 7-Pride Colors! Sorry for the inaccurate colors. My markers were leaking everywhere and I could hardly make a straight line with them! Though I hoped to finish this today, so I pushed through… For those born in July 7. May you build the bridge to make people even. Happy birthday!

July 6’s prompt of the day is “6 Hearts Beating.” Of course we have my main girl Bimmy, but- OOH! Is that some new faces I spy? Well, you’d be correct! But let’s leave it at that… For now. To those who are born on the sixth of July, may your hearts spread wings and talents fly. Happy birthday!

Day-5 of my Birthday countdown art challenge! Today’s prompt is “5-Dream Team” where I decided to draw the main 5 Eddsworld characters (owned by Edd Gould. May he draw in heaven with Stan Lee). Namely, Edd, Matt, Tom, Tord, AND Ringo! Of course! (To forget Ringo is a crime in my book!) This piece was kinda off to me. The colors were too strong that they fought each other and the shading had been confusing. Though I tried. I guess I’ll just take this as a lesson for next time. Oh well… To those born on July 5th, I wish all the most of gifts! Happy birthday!

-Bubbly, ROLL OUT!

Day 4 of my Birthday countdown art challenge! Today’s prompt is “4 siblings.” Here, I worked on a more pop art kind of style and no. I didn’t sketch again. It could be improved, but I still like this though… To those born in July 4th, I wish you safety. Away from hurt. Happy birthday!

Yesterday I met (that is, nearly tripped over) a very protective killdeer mother who did her level best to distract me, the very apologetic predator, from her eggs.

My technique for practicing animals in general, rather than over-focussing on one species: pick an animal and do an entire page of studies of that one species, then move on to a different one next time. Switch classes and families regularly; don’t get too used to just equines, or just songbirds. Don’t worry about skeletal/muscular anatomy or perfect proportions just yet- save that for when you do prep for a more formal illustration. Just try to capture quick studies of living, moving, animals.

Sketching exclusively on toned paper for a year now has really improved my use of value and negative space- if you want to train yourself to think in silhouette, work on a midtone and carry a white colored pencil.
