OKAY. SO.

Rebecca’s promo has been unleashed upon us, giving us the usual three items that will show up in the episode. And……… UH.

Blights? Blights.

The necklace and goggles are clearly Odalia and Alador’s, which is honestly surprising to me, as I wouldn’t have expected these two to play a big role at this point in the story. But then again, CloudsontheHorizon has a very vague synopsis, “Everyone on the Isles prepares to celebrate the Day of Unity,” so there’s a lot to be imagined.

My guess is that Alador and Odalia are going to have differing opinions on how to prepare for the Day of Unity; perhaps Amity, Edric, and Emira have told them what Hunter confessed about the true purpose behind the holiday, and while Alador believes them, Odalia likely wouldn’t. I see this as Alador’s big chance to be the father he’s trying to be now; to go against Odalia and listen to his children, perhaps even severing his bond with his wife altogether. He’d be better off, that’s for sure.

As for the flower itself…..

It sees to be about the same type that was in ReachingOut, but if you look closely, there is a tiny crescent moon in the middle of it. If Amity is to be represented by this flower, could this be revisiting her potential connection with the Collector? Do the Blights have some history with him, perhaps? That Alador and Odalia know about?

Thinking about how Hunter has always been unable to produce magic, but he still considered himself a witch, just a “powerless” one. How he held pride in his Golden Guard status, how he was legitimately passionate about his role in the Emperor’s Coven. He was the youngest Golden Guard to be given that title, he was the Emperor’s nephew; he was powerless, yes, but he still held power.

And then HollowMind happens. Hunter loses everything all at once; the promise of being someone in his uncle’s mind, the seemingly-great status of Golden Guard (his pride), and then he learns that he’s not even just a “powerless witch,” he’s a Grimwalker, a clone or some sort of a human, even, and his entire identity that he’s carved for himself is taken away.

SoLabyrinthRunners finds him both researching Grimwalkers - trying to find information on his own species and going through multiple books on the subject, and also… he doesn’t seem to consider himself a witch anymore.

Any pride he might’ve held for himself has been stripped away, leaving him with a creeping sense of misplaced guilt (that Luz shares) and nowhere, seemingly, for him to belong anymore.

Thankfully, though, Hunter’s story is NOT yet over. He still has a narrative to tell; a redemption arc of sorts, though not for his character, just for himself. His journey to find somewhere he belongs, find a family, and most importantly, find pride in himself once more.
