#snapeloveposts
Hello Snapedom darlings!
Neurodiverse Snape Week is coming up in about 2 and a half weeks—can you believe it?
Check out our fest info and FAQ post here.
I cannot WAIT to see everything you create!!
Hello Snapedom! The universe and covid have been repeatedly whacking me with sharp sticks but in spite of—or heck because of—that it’s time to officially announce:
Neurodiverse Snape Week!
What:
A fest for your art and writing (and more) about Neurodiverse Snape!
For the purpose of this fest, neurodiverse includes anything in the DSM V and anything you wish was in the DSM V, with an emphasis on currently underrepresented neurodiverse Snapes. (Unipolar depressed Snape, for example, is pretty well represented in the fandom.)
When:
April 5-11, 2021
Prompts:
It’s a Snapeloveposts event, so we’d be remiss to leave you without prompts! These were developed by the wonderful @corgi-nub.
Day 1: Coping
Day 2: Fixation
Day 3: Aloneness/Isolation
Day 4: Secret World
Day 5: Order & Chaos
Day 6: Reaching Out
Day 7: Discovery
FAQ:
What if I’d rather not do the prompts?
That’s totally okay! We know that folks may not be called to these prompts, or might only want to do a few of them—that’s fine. You may also have a specific world/theme/neurodivergence in mind and want to make multiple works relating to that, but find that what you have in mind doesn’t fit all the prompts—we think that’s awesome! Go for it!
Can I write/draw/create about things that I don’t experience?
First of all, we will never question your experience or demand an explanation/justification for why you chose to create a work. We think that kind of behavior is veryrude.
However, we hope you will put care and thought into your representations of neurodiversity and/or mental illness. You might ask yourself:
- Have you learned directly from the source?—that is, from multiple people who experience that neurodivergence or mental illness personally? This is required in all cases. You can read tumblr blogs dedicated to pretty much any form of neurodiversity or mental illness, for example. Instagram is another great place to start, and there are many others.
- Do you know what ableism looks like regarding this neurodivergence or mental illness? Have you seen some bad representations and do you understand what makes them bad?
- Have you learned enough to create a well-rounded, “3 dimensional” portrait of a unique individual with that neurodivergence or mental illness? (Within reason, given that many fanworks just aren’t long enough or detailed to actually show all you know, and that’s okay.)
All of this is possible! If you can confidently answer these questions, and are open to making mistakes and being kindly corrected if need be, then go for it, loves!!!
We believe that in order to create diverse and realistic original fictional worlds, all of us will have to create characters who are unlike us. Practicing this skill in fandom space is a safe and friendly way to begin.
Sometimes this means making small errors and then correcting them. That’s okay, because we are all learning, and we don’t subscribe to moral purity/policing ideas that falsely claim that good people come into the world perfect, so imperfect people must then be bad. We reject that kind of reactionary Calvinism!
Will there be sensitivity readers?
It depends!
Folks who are interested in being publicly available as sensitivity readers can comment below with what they are willing to read for.
Folks who don’t want to be publicly available, but are still interested in being a sensitivity reader, DM me @snapescapades!
If you are looking for a sensitivity reader, comment below with what experiences you want read for.
So I need a sensitivity reader, huh?
NOPE! Some people want them, some people don’t. We never require that pieces be sensitivity read.
I have another question.
Comment below or send me an ask! :)
Hello Snapedom!
I’m hoping to gauge interest in the possibility of running ♾ Neurodivergent Snape Week ♾ this late winter/early spring. We last ran NSW in late February of 2018, and I loved it!
We would offer daily prompts for a week, similar to Trans Snape Week in November.
Our current shortlist (I.e. will be cut down to 7-8) of prompts is here for reference:
- Coping
- Fixation
- Aloneness/Isolation
- Heightened
- Secret World
- Order & Chaos
- Reaching Out
- Discovery
- Drifting - Masking/Dissociation
- Discordance/Disconnect
Does this sound like something you would be interested in participating in?
Any suggestions for when we will have Snape Appreciation Week?
With Bring Back the Bastard still ongoing, I feel like we need at least a month’s break before we can attempt another fan week.
If November isn’t a good month for this, with all the holidays, we can have a Snape Appreciation Week next year. What do you guys think?
