So…here’s a sneak preview
Vivian looked at herself in the mirror. Her long black hair was heavy with four bottles of Color Me Krazy hair dye. She sighed as she carefully twisted the wet mass into a manageable updo. Considering the fight she had with her parents two months ago, stressing over changing majors, and six months of living on her own with no parental help, she felt more like beached whale instead of a bouncy adult shark.
Carefully, Vivian walked out of her tiny bathroom and into her equally small living room. Even though her hair was in a bun, any sudden movement would unravel its unfinished glory and cause a mess far worse than what she was used to. She slowly sat on the futon, where her laptop was conveniently waiting for her. Behind her, Velcro leaped out of his tank and latched onto her right shoulder. The sudden cold, wet, fleshy feel made her scream and jerk her head to his direction. Velcro stared at her blankly, mouth slightly open. In one swift motion, Vivian caught her falling hair and clipped it back into place. She gave her remora a soft scratch on the top of his head before finally opening up her laptop.
“Alright, back to this geometry quiz.” She mumbled to herself. Halfway through, her phone began ringing. She looked at the caller ID and groaned softly; it was her mom.
They hadn’t spoken since the fight and Vivian didn’t have the energy for it. What they said to her about becoming a designer struck a nerve that was still being repaired. She already knew they were going to try to find a way to weasel into her life again.
Vivian reluctantly answered the call, barring a fake grin and a way-too-happy greeting, “Hey mom! What’s up?” She shook her head, thinking about how ridiculous she sounded. But she had to do it in order to keep them from forcing themselves back into her life.
So, this is still on the rough side. I know I said yesterday afternoon, but I kind of forgot I had work. Stupid, yeah, but better late than never I suppose.
