Staking out the warehouse had been my idea, but stupid me I didn't account for how watchful the crooks would be too. After a few days of nothing suspicious, we hit paydirt. Mandy used her shiny new cellphone and filmed the bad guys loading poorly wrapped art pieces in the back of a van. We were so caught up in our success, we didn't know we’d been caught in the act until the guns were in our faces.
Mandy nearly burst into tears when they destroyed her phone. We were gagged and tied up tight, then stuffed squirming and fighting into a big metal dumpster. At least it was clean inside. The crooks finished their business and drove off. After a while, all was quiet. Then we heard that big garbage truck approaching….

Madison looked at her watch nervously and scanned the area. There should be sirens wailing in the distance any second. The girl detective bit her lip and decided to press on, cops or no cops. The cellar door opened with a metallic shriek, spoiling whatever advantage could be gained by surprise. Madison moved ahead flashlight in hand down the concrete steps.
Amanda ! Bound ! Gagged !! Her eyes wide and pleading. Madison moved impulsively forward. A hand clamped over her mouth from behind.

Madison found herself overpowered, gagged and secured awkwardly in the kidnapped girl’s lap.

“Stupid girl ! We gave you accurate directions to recover your friend and the cops got the fakes, they’re clear across town !”
