Top Photo: Alexander Wang NYFW 2012. Bottom Photo: Alexander Wang NYFW 2016. What Happened?
Alexander Wang used to be known for his simplistic yet sophisticated style. His price point was high for such simple clothing, but his clothes sold for everyone knew that if they were wearing Alexander Wang, they were classy and stylish in comfortable clothing. However, in recent years, most specifically this past year, Wang has definitely gone a different direction. Why? That still remains to be seen. If you look at the bottom photo, it may confuse you that that is the same designer that made the clothes in the top photo. The Wang collection from NYFW 2016 clearly are trying to keep that “effortless” edge to the clothing, but the chic and sophisticated look is gone. Not to be too harsh, but these girls look like they are on the Venice Beach Boardwalk and wearing clothes they wouldn’t mind getting dirty. I’m confused with Wang’s aesthetic turn, and wonder what future collections will hold. But for now, I feel like this collection will make him lose his normal buyer- who really just wants simple chic.
