Bourgain (b.1826 - d.1921) was a student alongside Edelfelt under Jean Leon Gerome in the 1870s at the Ecole des Beaux Arts. The model for this image was also the same model for Edelfelt’s famous painting 'Queen Blanche (Blanka)’ c.1877.
