One of the things I’ve been pondering, without coming to a conclusion, is whether or not things that a deity shows you or guides you through must necessarily indicate something about them. I keep coming back to all the “underground” imagery, all the “rock” associated stuff and yeah sure of course it sure SEEMS LIKE this would point to things that are within the relevant god’s area of interest and associations, especially since some of the Underworld themes have been SO STRONG, but.

I’m not sure how literal I should be taking any of it, because I’ve also been getting some things that point to that being useful imagery, but pointing to something more - abstract. More behind-the-scenes, or “underground as metaphor,” than actual caves or rocks or or whatever.

And some of the Weird vision stuff that’s been more blatantly about the god in question has been - not that kind of stuff (caves, rocks, etc.). Some of it has been underground sorts of things, more or less. But again, pictures are useful to convey things but taking pictures in these contexts too literally can lead a person off in entirely the wrong direction.

Anyway, questions, not particularly answered, except that some of the Weird stuff … might actually line up with what I was thinking about yesterday, which, alas, I haven’t been able to get out of my head.

I’ve moved quite firmly into “don’t want to know, really truly WON’T be looking more” wrt the “real” identity of this new deity, chiefly because I’m aware of how much having myths and etc. to refer to can lead a person to question the validity of their experiences, or have stupid arguments with a god, even when you know that dealing with a god directly often … doesn’t match up neatly with recorded myths. Or much at all; I can’t say that the experience of dealing with Loki is a real easy fit with what I’ve seen in the Eddas. And also knowing how spirits interact to some degree based on what you already know/think you know about them, and I suspect I’m better off using the “filters” that this dude provided me, rather than whatever myths, etc., are out there because otherwise, he’d have told me otherwise himself.

This was perhapsinfluenced in some small way by doing yet-another shitty web search on some things, looking at a site that was obviously garbage yet hit far too many notes, giggling nervously and saying “what the fuck what the fuck,” going to a better source (wikipedia; don’t judge me), reading a page or two (neither of which, surprising no one, backed up the shitty website!), and doing the equivalent of slamming the book shut and saying “Yeah, okay, no, don’t want to know.”

Anyway funny thing, I was just going to say how it was kind of eerie how I grabbed half the Alleyman’s deck to do a reading (too much bother to try and shuffle the whole thing, plus it felt right) and got 2 different Death cards and a Wheel of Fortune, which, ok, thank you! Point made!! Kind of figured that was the situation but it’s nice to have it so emphatically told to me. And I did appreciate the nuance I got from the variations-on-a-theme.
