Please does someone remember if Carter stood up at attention when Colonel O'Neill entered the room? I only remember the case at the beginning of season eight, when he became a general. And also that they stood up when general Hammond entered the room. But can’t seem to recall any case when O'Neill entered the room in earlier seasons. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you tell me “Threads” is NOT an episode about how Sam and Jack got together, I will fight you

even the “previously on” sequence started with them confessing their feelings in ‘Divide and Conquer’ for crying out loud

Personally, I think that the entire narrative structure of the episode makes little sense otherwise. I mean, the previous two-parter Reckoning brought closure to the show’s main overarching plotlines, so all that was left for the writers to do is to bring equal closure to the character arcs. As a result, we got Threads, and it is called Threads for a reason. The episode is split into three separate storylines, each of which brings the main characters to the endpoint of the journey they started eight years ago and reinforces/resolves the individual themes connected to the characters.

Now, I think it is significant that, while Daniel and Teal’c both have a story thread of their own, Sam and Jack share one thread instead of having individual ones, and to me this illustrates that this episode is intended to work as the resolution to their romantic subplot. Moreover, it makes sense to merge their storylines, because Sam and Jack both have the same narrative themes in the show, namely duty and personal happiness – both their lives have been shaped by the military, personally as well as professionally, and both are hesitant to pursue personal happiness, Jack because he feels undeserving and Sam because she is scared of loss – themes that obviously extend into their relationship with each other as well.

Ultimately, Sam and Jack’s entire storyline in this episode is about reaffirming their feelings for each other and paving the way for a shared future by removing the obstacles between them. And it simply makes no sense from a storytelling point of view to put the focus of their story in Threads on their personal relationship, and then not follow it through to its natural endpoint. In short, the entire set-up of Sam and Jack’s storyline leads to only one logical conclusion; a conclusion that is later reinforced when we learn that, following the events of Threads, Sam and Jack got themselves reassigned to Homeworld Security and Area 51, respectively, thus effectively removing Jack from his position as Sam’s CO. Add to that the highly symbolic closing image of Sam and Jack, happy and relaxed, fishing at the cabin, and for me there is no doubt that they are together at that point.

Plus we had two different people, one who was watching Sam and Jack’s relationship grow from almost the beginning - Jacob, and the other, who needed only five minutes to realize that Sam and Jack had feelings for each other - Kerry, point out that they should be together

As you say, without the logical conclusion to their relationship, the episode makes little sense. And I agree, they finally got together after ‘Threads’, and worked everything out when she was recalled back. And basically lived happily ever after

All this above.
