The Secret Forest

This is by far the most complex pattern I’ve attempted and it’s taken a lot of time and effort, a lot of struggling with Illustrator which I still consider myself relatively new to, but it’s definitely been worthwhile - I’m learning a lot and ending up with work I feel proud of, even as I continue to struggle against creative block… 

I’ve spent a lot of time this year in woodlands and nature, and I wanted to capture some of the magic of being in a place mostly untouched by humans. I’ve also played with an alternate version without the river, but the flow of water and its essential role in nature is something I wanted to include as a focal point.

I’m aiming to make a pattern collection centred on this piece, so I’m still working on similar companion pieces. It’s going to be hard work to realise all my ideas, but I’m gaining experience all the time and I know that if I keep going slowly and steadily I‘ll end up with something great.
