Preteen:

Kaede - 12 (Based on her confirmed age in Season 1)

Early Teens:

Lara (13/14) - Her character is meant to represent magical girls, who usually range in age between 10 - 15 years old. But Lara definitely seems like the youngest of the bunch.

Mid to Late Teens:

Pao-lin (16) (Based on her confirmed age in Season 1)

Subaru (16 - 18)

Thomas (16 - 18)

College Aged: (18 - 23)

Karina (19) (Based on her confirmed age in Season 1)

Ivan (21/22) (Mostly confirmed?)

Ryan (22/23)

Late 20s to 30:

Barnaby (27)  (Based on his confirmed age in Season 1)

Keith (28 - 30) - His character has never felt like one of the older heroes (like Nathan, Antonio, and Kotetsu), but he also didn’t feel like a teen or early 20 year old either. So I can see him being around Barnaby’s age, just a little bit older.

Early to Mid 30s:

Agnes (33 - 35)

Nathan (34/35) - Nathan feels younger than Kotetsu and Antonio, but not by much. I feel like Nathan was already 30+ in Season 1, so I would be surprised if they were younger than that, tbh.

Mid to Late 30s +:

Antonio (35/36) - Apparently, Antonio is younger than Kotetsu. Though there was a drama CD that made it clear that they attended school together, so I don’t see him being that much younger.

Yuri (35 - 37) - I can see him being close to Kotetsu in age. He was a teen when his dad started drinking and the problems and cover-ups and staged stuff to keep Mr. Legend on top was all happening. While Kotetsu admired him as a older child and met Mr. Legend when he was still in his prime. So I feel Yuri should be around Kotetsu’s age. The connection they share via Mr. Legend also makes me think that it would be neat if they were the same age. Plus, he is a judge, and most judges are like 40+ years old.

Kotetsu (36/37) - He’s the oldest of the bunch (in regards to heroes anyway, it could be possible that Yuri is older).

*All of the confirmed ages I got from a This Is Sternbild post (all the way back in 2011). I didn’t personally agree with some of the takes on ages. This is also mostly just to reflect my own personal view on how I see the characters and the vibes they give off, etc.

Edit: We now have Kotetsu’s official age!

In the recent livestream it was revealed that Kotetsu was born in NC1942, debuted as a hero at the age of 25, was 26 when Kaede was born, was 35 in Season 1, and is now 38 years old as of Season 2

Thanks to サンチェスパコミA55a (@tigermilk8282) for sharing the info. Go if their twitter a follow! :D

We got official confirmation that Antonio is 38 years old too! That makes sense to me, since he and Kotetsu both went to school together. I don’t know where fandom got the idea that Antonio was slightly younger, but the official confirmation is that they are the same age.

Lloyds is 42 years old. This book includes a scenerio from one of the episodes and Lloyds age was the only one given, because they forgot to erase it. Info comes from どんける灰都2.1/二期履修済み @dunkel_heid.

Wait is Barnaby actually British

This is from one of the short extras, right? I don’t think those were ever officially translated, so these are likely fan translations.

My understanding is that official translations tend to go with American English more often than not (this goes for how English is taught in Japanese schools as well, but that is a whole other can of worms).

So, I’m thinking that what likely happened here is that the fan translator was British (or non-American, anyway) and used flat instead of apartment. I could be wrong though.

Most fans do assume that Barnaby has British ancestry anyway, so…why not? lol

victorcrystalgem:

I’m playing a game called “I wonder if this guy who calls everyone he doesn’t like a snowflake has ever seen himself in the mirror”, waiting for the results rn.

It’s really so funny. The people who say stuff like this usually have very little to no Japanese abilities and they also tend to not have any training, experience, knowledge, or learning in translation theory and how translations work, the restrictions, and etc. They are more often than not, just trying to find and use examples of any slight changes in a dub’s dialogue to push a (usually alt-right leaning, “anti-woke”) agenda. They view Japan as being some kind of apolitical wonderland that just…does not exist. They are the same people that will insist that the entirety of Japan is apolitical and that they are “anti-woke” and a-okay with everything.

The people who make videos or think pieces on this dub change are absolutely trying to push some made up agenda about “Western ideas and values corrupting anime” or something akin to that. They are always being made in bad faith. And it is honestly so funny that these fans are going for Tiger & Bunny, a series that makes a shit ton of social commentary (aka political commentary) on topics such as: capitalism, consumerism, objectifying the female body for viewership, domestic abuse, neglectful parenting (I love Kotetsu, but he has neglected Kaede and the series actually addresses that), discrimination (NEXT discrimination), homophobia and transphobia, and in this second season we have fatphobia being shut down too (both Nathan and Karina shush Ryan when he makes a fatphobic comment about Agnes’ weight gain).

There is more too: the series taking a strong stance against groping and stalking (not portraying these things as comedic and light hearted, etc.). All of these social stances are also political stances. They all overlap with each other.

In that scene with Ryan he is specifically talking about his internalized ideas on women and is realizing that those ideas are imbedded in sexist societal norms. He’s admitting that and coming to terms with that, so it fits completely with the situation and with the Japanese dialogue and context. T&B tackling sexism is also completely in-line with the series and the other issues they’ve tackled before too.

It’s also really funny because the core T&B fanbase loves that line, finds it both hilarious and endearing, and still finds the talk between Ryan and Karina to be touching and a great character development moment for the both of them. This is all I’ll likely say about the topic myself, because there isn’t anything more to add. I was actually pretty surprised that it took this long for the videos on the topic to really start popping off. Since T&B isn’t that popular outside of Japan, I was expecting it to go unnoticed. But those people probably check out like every dub of every anime to look for stuff like this, lol.
