Been rewatching The Bad Batch and couldn’t help but notice the music and subtle storytelling in this scene-
When it first shows Rex’s helmet you can hear a subtle undercurrent of The Clone theme and a battle theme.
But those first notes, the ones that appear when we get a close up of Rex’s *face* those are the beginning notes of Ahsoka’s theme
While we’re looking at Rex’s face, we hear Ahsoka’s music, perhaps communicating that she reminds Rex of his humanity. At the very least he’s thinking of her in this moment. But as he looks down at his helmet something pulls him back and reminds him what he “is meant to be” and what his brothers were, soldiers designed to fight for a cause, selflessly and to the bitter end; the clone/battle music takes over.
I honestly can’t help but wonder what Rex was thinking in this moment. Was he conflicted? Was he fighting against the chip even here? Did he understand what Ahsoka was saying to him? That this wasn’t his fault?
