LIVE

They are assembled, astonished and disturbed

round him, who like a sage resolved his fate,

and now leaves those to whom he most belonged,

leaving and passing by them like a stranger.

Rainer Maria Rilke

The Last Supper, by Leonardo da Vinci

As one of the most influential historical figures over the past several hundred years, Jesus (Yehoshua ben Yosef) life and teachings has inspired many movements in the world, for better and for worse. Debates over Jesus’s true intentions and his life and death will surely continue, but one thing is for certain: Jesus was a Jew, and a mensch at that. Here are a few facts:

-Jesus’s lineage is said to trace back to Abraham, the very first Jew and the man responsible for establishing the covenant between the Jewish people and G-d. [x]

-According to the Bible, Jesus and his disciples took part in the Jewish holiday Pesach (Passover). Known as “The Last Supper” in Christian tradition, the famous meal that Jesus and his disciples took part in was a seder which included unleavened bread and wine. [x]

-According to the Bible, following his death, Jesus was buried in accordance with the Jewish burial customs of the time, which included the dressing of his body in a linen shroud. [x]

The King’s Advisors.

Acrylic and Acryla gouache on illustration board.

This is the final piece for Warlords & Sellswords, one illustration for five cards that is meant to be sliced up individually but can be shown as one for promotional purposes, a la Magic: the Gathering’s panoramic lands. Each of these advisors care about different aspects of the army, and most of them represent the highest level unit of their type: the general who cares about soldiers, the engineer who cares about equipment, the witch who cares about other mages, the grizzled trainer who cares about one individual strong unit, and in the center, the king’s second in command who cares about the army as a whole. My goal with this piece was to have each section be suggestive of what each character did, down to background details, and also to continue to highlight diversity, as I have with all the other pieces for the game. A side note about wizards - the skullcap was inspired by Merlin’s costume in Excalibur.

This was a long, but rewarding project, and I learned a lot from it. And best of all, the client is happy!
