#this man i swear

LIVE

Now that I’ve lost serious sleep yelling about Obi-wan Kenobi, some more organized thoughts in relation to last night’s episode:

  • I…loved the fact they didn’t dwell too long on the bacta scene? I was expecting that was going to be where our flashbacks would occur, but this was BETTER. The mirroring of Obi-wan and Anakin, the way Obi-wan just springs from that tank ready to roll while he’s injured, probably suppressing some major angst because he has Leia to save.
  • (Speaking of suppression, did you notice the one time Obi-wan referenced Anakin, he called him “Vader?” That way of distancing himself HURTS).
  • One of the things I have really enjoyed about Obi-wan and his lightsaber use is that he makes no big deal about igniting it, like it’s a last-ditch action he’d still rather not engage and it’s so abrupt and that messiness is just gorgeous. He’s still not totally come to terms with everything that’s happened.
  • Tala might be my new favorite character????? What a badass. Was totally expecting her to bite it and she DIDN’T and her whole scene in the Inquisitorium was A+++.
  • I think this is the most interesting we’ve seen Reva so far. Her interactions with Leia were curdling.
  • I know some people were throwing shit on the internet about “Wade,” but you know - it’s fitting. How many times during the war did Obi-wan have to walk through scenes of strangers dying, of mourning, possibly due to the fact they helped the Republic, the Jedi, him.It was realistic and wrenching that this man Obi-wan didn’t know gave his life for this impossible plan and that there was nothing Obi-wan could do to console those left behind. Death tends to follow Obi-wan Kenobi like a loving shadow.
  • Others have more eloquently remarked on the return to literal form in Obi-wan’s fighting style. I ALSO want to comment on that quiet moment of him using the Force to distract the Stormtroopers. That was an Old Ben moment if there ever was one.
  • Can we talk about how high Obi-wan’s kill count is? This isn’t like TCW where he busts up a bunch of droids, he’s literally aiming and swinging to kill. It’s…it’s a little dark, which I’m sure is where his head space is right now. I am, as would be expected, a FAN.
  • That Florrum reference was incredible. I want to believe Hondo is out there, helping out the Jedi underground movement. This is my head canon now. (I know we’re not getting a Hondo cameo in this show, it would be too tonally jarring, but you KNOW he has to end up knocking on Obi-wan’s desert door at some point).
  • I’ve mentioned this in the tags of other posts but it bears repeating: I am so willing to overlook any inconsistencies between this show and ANHif we get to see Obi-wan Kenobi like THIS every week. Blow a crater in canon for all I care, I am entertained.
  • I love Obi-wan Kenobi. That is all.

Yes, yes I know: Tragic Backstory ™️. Still, it’s low-key hilarious that he’s all like ‘gege look away im so ugly’ when he’s usually the most attractive person in the room at any given time
