Hello All!

Hope everyone is well and safe! I know my blog has been rather dormant for a while, and I truly appreciate everyone that has been keeping it alive and interacting with it. Truly humbling to see my words and stuff meaning and impacting so much.

So I’m giving this blog a little revamp, and I’m hoping to be posting some new stuff more. I’m in a more stable place and better with things. I’m also going to be looking into some witch stuff and magic - so if you see some of that content on here that’s why! Literally just starting, so bear with me as I go about it.

Anyway, just want to say hi again. Thanks for everything. Looking forward to more things coming!

Cheers!

-D

p.s. if anyone has some resources (books, blogs, podcasts or videos) to look into with witchcraft and magic, I’d love to know. Send me an ask or message if you can! Thanks!

“Uh excuse me do you know where the nearest pharmacy or hospital is?” Skylar asked shyly as she quickly walked up to the stranger

“Oh, the pharmacy? There should be one a couple blocks down from here, are you alright?” Nitori answered the lost girl’s question, a kind smile over his pale features as he points down the streets.

Names are important.

I mentioned in my previous post that Obi-wan’s single reference to Anakin in last night’s episode was to call him “Vader,” which is such a purposeful distancing move that must have been tearing Obi-wan up inside.

But what I find interesting is how Obi-wan himself is referred to. Reva, Bail, and Nari all call him “Obi-wan,” are all referring to the man he once was, all referencing the history of the Jedi, the Republic, the myth of Obi-wan Kenobi. In contrast, Leia and Tala (by and large) just call him “Ben,” Tala specifically switching to “Ben” at his request. Leia has no idea who Obi-wan is. Tala accepts the man over the myth. (Vader, of course, engages in the classic Star Wars villain “Kenobi” moniker, beloved of Grievous, Dooku, and of course and infamously, Maul).

When we meet Ben Kenobi years later during ANH, he states that Obi-wan is a name he hasn’t heard in a long time. And now seeing this show, I believe it. He’s not that man anymore, just like he said, although not in the way he intended. He’s both darker in action and yet more committed to the light. He’s a Jedi, but in spirit, not in organizational and political chains. What we’re seeing happen, in real time, is the literal transformation of Obi-wan into Ben, an entirely new being. And I think it’s going to be Ben, more than Obi-wan, who encounters Vader for the inevitable second exchange.

Look what he has risen above.

(And Disney, if you want to give me the continuing adventures of Ben Kenobi, Ben who is less afraid to play dirty, who wields the Force with a careful eye, who, I now believe, had to be running sixteen side operations on and off Tatooine while he was looking after Luke - I would be here for it.)

Now that I’ve lost serious sleep yelling about Obi-wan Kenobi, some more organized thoughts in relation to last night’s episode:

  • I…loved the fact they didn’t dwell too long on the bacta scene? I was expecting that was going to be where our flashbacks would occur, but this was BETTER. The mirroring of Obi-wan and Anakin, the way Obi-wan just springs from that tank ready to roll while he’s injured, probably suppressing some major angst because he has Leia to save.
  • (Speaking of suppression, did you notice the one time Obi-wan referenced Anakin, he called him “Vader?” That way of distancing himself HURTS).
  • One of the things I have really enjoyed about Obi-wan and his lightsaber use is that he makes no big deal about igniting it, like it’s a last-ditch action he’d still rather not engage and it’s so abrupt and that messiness is just gorgeous. He’s still not totally come to terms with everything that’s happened.
  • Tala might be my new favorite character????? What a badass. Was totally expecting her to bite it and she DIDN’T and her whole scene in the Inquisitorium was A+++.
  • I think this is the most interesting we’ve seen Reva so far. Her interactions with Leia were curdling.
  • I know some people were throwing shit on the internet about “Wade,” but you know - it’s fitting. How many times during the war did Obi-wan have to walk through scenes of strangers dying, of mourning, possibly due to the fact they helped the Republic, the Jedi, him.It was realistic and wrenching that this man Obi-wan didn’t know gave his life for this impossible plan and that there was nothing Obi-wan could do to console those left behind. Death tends to follow Obi-wan Kenobi like a loving shadow.
  • Others have more eloquently remarked on the return to literal form in Obi-wan’s fighting style. I ALSO want to comment on that quiet moment of him using the Force to distract the Stormtroopers. That was an Old Ben moment if there ever was one.
  • Can we talk about how high Obi-wan’s kill count is? This isn’t like TCW where he busts up a bunch of droids, he’s literally aiming and swinging to kill. It’s…it’s a little dark, which I’m sure is where his head space is right now. I am, as would be expected, a FAN.
  • That Florrum reference was incredible. I want to believe Hondo is out there, helping out the Jedi underground movement. This is my head canon now. (I know we’re not getting a Hondo cameo in this show, it would be too tonally jarring, but you KNOW he has to end up knocking on Obi-wan’s desert door at some point).
  • I’ve mentioned this in the tags of other posts but it bears repeating: I am so willing to overlook any inconsistencies between this show and ANHif we get to see Obi-wan Kenobi like THIS every week. Blow a crater in canon for all I care, I am entertained.
  • I love Obi-wan Kenobi. That is all.

Running a marathon this morning. Thought you all might appreciate my choice in shirts.

Okay, another thing I thought of today:

Obi-wan’s comparison of light and dark in terms of the Force and couching it in terms of being safe.

And this is so great because I’m thinking of how Dooku would relate to this. And how for Dooku specifically, he would be the person who, when the lights are turned on, would never feel wholly safe, knowing the dark was always there, waiting, biding its time on the periphery. Because in the end, everything resolves to darkness, because Nothing is inevitable and what else to do against the injustice of the dying of the light? Except in Dooku’s case, even the dark is not necessarily the answer, as it, too, holds no safety, although it does further possibility, and if one can understand their end, then what can one accomplish with that knowledge?
