May 22 - Musashi University / Tokyo Tower

     Today we had a guest lecture with a global studies class at Musashi University, a private school here in Tokyo. When we got there the professor took us on a walking tour of the campus, which also included an all-boys jr. high school and a high school. At the junior high, they kept goats as a part of an agricultural society! We got to the class, where 10 students gave a presentation on everyday Japanese life and culture that tourists may not get to experience. The idea was that although westerners come to see the city and have fun, for everyone else it really is just daily life as it would be anywhere else. 

     We answered some questions about our relationship with our culture and societies, and formed small groups to talk about our views and the reasons our countries see themselves so differently. Then, we split up to have lunch and were joined by more local students. Shun, a 3rd year global studies major, helped me navigate the cafeteria and taught me how to get water and such. I sat with him and about 6 other students, but there were so many names I can’t remember them all anymore. The conversation was really nice though, it felt like talking to my friends back home.

     We got back to the classroom and split into small groups again - this time I was paired with two girls from my program and a Japanese girl named Chiharu. She was just a ball of sunshine and we all got along so well. When the professor asked his students what advice they had for us, hers was that we should all spend more time together before we fly back. I think we will probably see her again next Wednesday when we have a free day :)

     After leaving Musashi, we went to Tokyo Tower. Built after the end of the war,  it was designed after the Eiffel tower and built to be just slightly taller. We rode all the way to the top observation deck, which had a beautiful view of the skyline. The inside of the tower was just as stunning, with talking pictures and geometric mirrored walls creating a journey upwards that was never boring when we had to wait. At the top of the tower, the bay was visible, and apparently, if there are fewer clouds you can actually see Mt. Fuji in the skyline. After leaving the tower, I got conveyor belt sushi with 3 friends and it was an experience - food just kept coming and you could grab anything you wanted. I ended up eating the least of the group, but I still felt stuffed walking home afterward.

I don’t know what happened to this picture - the quality was really good on Chiharu’s phone but when she sent it, it became really blurry. But here is us all together anyways as new friends

hope you’ve all been doing well! my friend and i visited tokyo tower and chilled at shiba park this weekend ♡

sorry for the slow posts, i haven’t been doing anything too interesting but it’s starting to feel like summer in tokyo!

japan is slowly but surely starting to open up to tourists now so I wonder if any of my followers are able to visit? ♪

i’ll put up a video soon on youtube about my golden week holiday in may where i went to gunma and did a homestay on a farm in saga, and I’ll also probably be filming a much requested spring/summer 2022 fashion video!
