Coffee Break at Roppongi
Ten years ago.
While I was taking a photo of this scene a young woman approached me and asked what I was photographing. I always hate these sort of things, because about 99% of the time I cannot really explain it, nor do I want to. But this was different for young women hardly ever approach me so directly to ask about it. Plus, her interest was not just the standard question, for I noticed a titanium Contax G2 around her neck. It turned out that she was a photography student at the university where I taught technical writing at the time. She took out a box of black and white prints and told me that she was taking part in an exhibition to open in the area.
I later went to the exhibition, but afterward never saw her again. Every time I look at this photo, I think of her. And that mint Contax G2 around her neck.

Thinking of spring brings back memories of sakura (桜) and hanami (花見) in Tokyo. The brief blooms often infect me with some melancholy. The blossoms at Aoyama Cemetery (青山霊園) have that effect in abundance; however, I often break that sadness by thinking anyone able to afford a family grave here must have lived a good life.
This photo was taken on a brief detour one fine spring morning almost 7-years ago.
My friends always found me alittle strange, especially when i took them on shortcuts through this Cemetery

My walk through Tokyo on the 14th was very productive. Here’s another photo from around Roppongi Hills. This Orange Lily or Fire Lily was found in one of the many flower beds scattered around the development.

Green wall and yellow taxi. Between Aoyama Cemetary and Roppongi Hills is Roppongi Tunnel, which connects Aazabu Juban and Akabanebashi with Aoyama Cemetary and Gaien Higashi Dori. One one side just before the entrance is a wall covered with vines the wall on the other side is a wall covered with the Roppongi Tunnel Muruals (六本木トンネルの壁画).
