Working on a bunch of stuff I can’t show yet so here are a few plein air paintings from my time in Akureyri, Iceland last year. Iceland’s second-largest city up on the northern coast is a wonderful, beautiful place, like the rest of the country. I absolutely loved the way the mountains loomed over the city, spending most of the day capped in mist as you see in the first image. In the third image you get a sense of scale - that blob on the left is a cruise ship which happened to be docked when we arrived. And of course, the famous #smugan

Thinking a lot about all my beloved friends in New York right now - here are a couple paintings I did there when I was visiting last spring! The first is the southeast entry of @frickcollection —the second is a painting I did from memory after running out into one of those instant-crazy rain storms over the upper east side, and lamenting that, for obvious reasons, I couldn’t paint it on location There’s something special and thrilling about watching a scene with the intent of painting it immediately afterward from memory - feels like the brain records info a little differently
