Making Dynamite an English single may have been a decision made to reach a wider audience (probably just for money though), but now announcing a second English single seems like a decision only made for money purposes. Bighit saw what a giant success Dynamite was and after Life Goes On (kinda, but not really) flopped, decided that the English market is a better target.

Kpop isn’t good vocal music. Aside from the high notes, there’s little room to show the kind of range a lot of these amazing singers have. I never really thought Wendy was the vocal god she is until I saw videos from when she was in high school singing. And it’s because kpop doesn’t allow much room for REALLY good vocals. Wendy gets her 3 seconds to really shine with her high notes and that’s it. Everything else is just… standard singing.

In The Morning was a choice. Im not a huge fan of the song to begin with but the one part of the song that’s like nails on a chalkboard to me is Yuna‘s “Ring-ding-ding-ding-ding-ding”. They tried to make the cutest and most bubbly member of the group do rap adlibs? It was so deprived of any kind of badassery it COMPLETELY took me out of the song. It sounded like a cute, fun, bubbly girl trying to be hard and not pulling it off too well. She pulls off the fun, confident concept insanely well, as well as the softer badass concept (Wannabe). But her voice is far too high and bright to be doing any kind of rap adlibs. I love the girl, but they should have given that to Ryujin or Yeji.

A.C.E’s underwater photo shoot for butterfly phantasy is epic, there should have been more of these photos in the photobook. The concept looked so stunning, too bad the title was just another aggressive boy group song.

More & More hade some of the ugliest stage outfits I’ve seen in a while.

SHINee has never been defined by a single concept or genre so idk if it is appropriate to say that don’t call me doesn’t fit them, but no matter the genre, SHINee songs have always been so unique that they were the only one to be able to pull it off. I don’t see that SHINee-quality in don’t call me tho, that song could have easily went to nct 127, especially the rap sections, i can definitely hear taeyong sing those. I’m not saying it’s a bad song, it’s definitely not, but it isn’t on par with other SHINee releases. (The b-sides on the album are amazing tho and definitely have that SHINee-feel to them)

I loooove victon’s voices, especially seungwoo and seungsik - their voices are so unique! Sadly I can’t really get into their music, What I Said is the only title track I enjoyed from them

I really tried to like it but I can’t get into ateez’ I’m the one. The autotune is a bit much and the live performances feel kind of lackluster. I don’t know why but this comeback feels kinda off, and I don’t think it’s just because of mingi’s absence.

People are always going on about how they prefer BTS‘s older releases, but I actually think everything from hyyh onwards is way better. I guess it boils down to taste, but their newer stuff just sounds more refined compared to the teenage angst of their school trilogy and danger.

i was really disappointed that sm scrapped nct dream’s concept. i thought it was cool and would allow newer members to shine since theyre mostly in that age range and dont get put in a more stable unit right away. i rather the original members just formed another subunit entirely instead of sm ditching the idea. (btw when i say concept i mean the graduating system, not the cutesy style/image dream used to have)

I’m very excited for Mnet’s new survival show Girls Planet 999. It’s been about 3 years since we last had a prominent girl group survival so this should be interesting.

Do or Not made me realize just how much Pentagon’s other vocals shine and I like the live version better than the original. While I do know that Jinho and Hui are more than incredible vocalists, it was nice to hear other members voices without the two of them singing the entire song. Like, I know Hui writes the songs and while I really like him, I just I’m a bit tired of his voice since he usually takes up half of their songs. this last comeback was really refreshing to me.

SM should’ve debuted an SNSD like group instead of Aespa tbh. That’s what we need in Kpop right now. A big girl group to fill the cute “girl next door” gap left by Izone and Twice, not another Blackpink knock off.

IZ*ONE snapped when they released Bloomiz. They topped the charts and their album sales were huge. It felt like a big screw you to the haters. And that’s on IZ* KARMA!

People have far too much faith in the kpop industry. After one of the Produce seasons, when everyone was suspicious of vote manipulation, I remember someone saying that there’s NO WAY they would do that because it would be lying to the public and they could go to jail for that. And here we are. They lied to the public and they’re going to jail. Some people have far too much faith in this industry and what the people making the money are willing to do to make more. Those people don’t care about your trainee’s dream. Never have, never will.

its kind of a bummer that haechan was too young to be in the 7th sense. the demo version with him was borderline amazing and i think that if the song was released today he’d be a perfect choice for the line-up. His voice matches the song even better now that he matured and i KNOW his smooth style of dancing would’ve killed that choreo.

I was thinking about this nowadays, and for me apink will be the group that established the cute concept in kpop. Like of course there were other groups that did it before them, but idk, the way their videos used to have that hazy, bright yet still pastel filter thing going on, the way their instrumental sounded and the structure of the song were then later used by groups like gfriend, lovelyz and im sure many more that i don’t remember the name of right now.

I absolutely loved Rose’s Gone, but I can’t stand to watch the music video. The lip-syncing in it is just TOO BAD. Like, yall are YG, aren’t you? Yall’ve got tones of money to do it properly.

All shipping of real people is weird, but its suspicious how when a boy and a girl are shipped people look the other way or even agree with the ship or the very least think its “cute”, but when it’s a boy and a boy or a girl and a girl NOW its all about “sToP sHiPpInG rEaL pEoPlE”.
