This must be Barack Obama’s way of thanking our veterans for serving.

US veterans are receiving letters from the government informing them that they are disabled and not allowed to own, purchase or possess a firearm. If the veteran does decide to purchase a firearm he will by fined, imprisoned or both.
This comes on page 2 of the VA letter.

This is disgusting.

Oh, for God’s sake. It’s not all veterans, or all disabled veterans. It’s veterans who have been determined to be mentally incompetent. Unless you actually WANT more incidents like the one that killed Chris Kyle, this is good policy.

I hate to say it, but there are a lot of vets who come back with a lot of severe mental issues. There is nothing stating that if they get help and eventually determined that they are mentally stable, that they can eventually get approved for firearms ownership.

Maybe it will help curb the number of veterans who are committing suicide . There is a possibility that they are more of threat to themselves than to anyone else. I dunno, this makes a bit of sense to me having known guys who come back from deployment suffering from severe PTSD which resulted in them killing themselves or killing their spouse. If I knew that this policy would have kept one of my friends alive long enough for him to get some help, I would support it.

Remember the argument about mental health? This is it

An Afghan-led security force, supported by coalition troops, prepare for a mission that arrested a Taliban facilitator in Khost district, Khost province. The detained Taliban facilitator was responsible for the acquisition and transfer of weapons and ammunition to multiple Taliban and Haqqani cells operating within Logar province. He coordinated the sale and delivery of multiple heavy weapons to include machine guns, rockets and improvised explosive devices to insurgents throughout Kabul, Pul - e ‘Alam and Baraki Barak districts.

During WWII the US Army Signal Corps documented everything the advancing troops found, including the concentration camps. This film was shown in civilian theatres at the time so everyone would understand what they found and be unable to deny what happened. The fact that it was made and shown at that time is documented. It would have been impossible to fake with the technology of that era.

Some leader on the ground allegedly told his men to take all the pictures they could, because he knew people would try tomorrow and in the future to deny what had happened there.

Yeah, that “some leader” was Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces General Eisenhower, who also ordered that every troop should tour a camp at their earliest convenience and brought over reporters and government officials.

“Get it all on record now - get the films - get the witnesses -because somewhere down the road of history some bastard will get up and say that this never happened.”

Happy Thanksgiving!

Remember those that are not able to be with their families today in order to provide us the umbrella of protection so we can celebrate this holiday in freedom

A Warrior actually dies twice.

Once when his heart stops; his spirit moves on to its next adventure. The second, and arguably more tragic, is when his story is told for the last time. His memory lost to the pages and his song no longer sung.

Tell the stories of our brothers and sisters. Raise mighty toasts in their honor so that the echoes mighty reach them in their well earned rest.

Pass on their legacy to the next generations so that it may never perish. So that our children may learn of them and from them.

Remembrance is not enough. Live out loud for them, speak up for them…be legends as they were.

This Memorial Day, Monday, May 27, the Ryerson and Burnham Libraries will be closed in celebration and remembrance of those who have served in the military.

The works you see here are by Jasper Johns and Norman Rockwell. Jasper Johns’ Three Flags (1958) and White Flag (1955) are only two of the many works by the artist that featured the American flag. Johns gave a new form to a familiar symbol that many were starting to look over, causing people to look at it with fresh eyes.

Norman Rockwell was a prominent artist during both world wars, showing his support for the armed forces through his art. The oil painting with the little girl handing the soldier a flower is titled The Tribute. This image was featured on the cover of Judge in August of 1918, shortly before World War I ended. The American Way (1944) is a World War II poster honoring disabled American veterans.

Come view more works by these artists, as well as other works about art and the military, when the reading room opens on Tuesday, May 28, at 1:00pm. These images are from:

Francis, Richard. Jasper Johns. First ed. Modern Masters Series ; v. 7. New York: Abbeville Press, 1984.

Rockwell, Norman, and Rockwell, Thomas. Norman Rockwell : My Adventures as an Illustrator. New York: Abrams, 1988.

Rockwell, Thomas. The Best of Norman Rockwell. Philadelphia, Pa.: Courage Books, 1988.

Thank you for all those who have served and those who continue to serve our country. Thank you to the artists who honor the members of our military forces with their work.

I don’t even want to write a review of “Top Gun: Maverick” honestly, I’ve seen 1,500+ movies and I’ve never finished one that left me more depressed about the future of this country. I just want to stop thinking about it
