@aalgorithm I didn’t think it would be that bad, I literally just put the episode on while I was eating and I was supposed stop watching and go get groceries and instead I just watched the whole thing. I still get stressed just thinking about it.

heroes feast wouldn’t have helped vax, vecna’s spell dc is high enough that he physically couldn’t have beaten the save on that hold person

I remember in the last Q&A Liam talking about how stealth oriented characters always seem to look a certain way, and how he made sure Vax’s design maintained a certain “boyishness” and I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it.
Because he nailed it and so did the animators.

It’s like, no matter what emotion he’s conveying there’s like, not a wide eyed wonder like Keyleth exactly, but like, a softness there. Idk if innocence is the right word but it’s the best thing I can come up with. A vulnerability but not a weakness, a heart on his sleeve vibe. Eyes that seem like they should belong to someone younger, someone less haunted.
Which is so not the norm for sneaky stabby characters, like yeah your mileage may vary in the ‘pretty boy’ department, but most of them are generally steely eyed and calculating (like Percy).
It is amazing how much of Vax comes from just from his face, I mean, I know Liam is the king of in-character face journeys at the table, but it’s insane how well that was translated into the animation. I can’t put a finger on exactly what about his character design makes this work but whatever it is it’s magical.
It really translates into who Vax is, the path he follows, how unforgivingly raw all of his feelings are, how he ends up being the moral compass of the group when Pike isn’t present and Keyleth isn’t ready to lead or make her beliefs known with full confidence yet. So much to unpack.
It’s so funny to me how Vex is trying to have this firm talk with Vax about how she doesn’t like how close him and Keyleth are getting and when she’s saying “We didn’t let ourselves get distracted by pretty things” it cuts to Keyleth being cute for emphasis
And immediately in the middle of this serious conversation Vax is all
Like the point he is taking from this is “You’re right, sister. She IS pretty :)”
Happy Halloween everyone!!! I did it!! This is my first time completing inktober 100% and this felt like the perfect drawing to end it on. Now I can finally take a breather lol, I hope everyone has a safe and happy Halloween
