A new find from a familiar set of 19th Century pornography - clearly intended as the first in the series depicting the seduction of a well-dressed young man, as he is significantly more dressed at this point than the others I have posted thus far!

Uncommon though they are, a surprising amount of early gay pornography has survived to this day, and it is always a little astonishing - and greatly satisfying - to discover not just isolated single images, but to be able to collect sets which feature the same models, the same backdrops and furnishings. This is the third photograph of this pair indulging in a little mutual masturbation, the others set indoorsandout (though even the haystack would have been recreated in the confines of the photographer’s studio.)

We have seen this pair before, getting to grips with one another in an indoor approximation of a countryside scene, here they appear in a boudoir setting though a very similar situation! Few of these deliberately titilating vintage photographs have survived, each find is exciting indeed - all the more interesting when we can recognise the models from other shots.

Today, dear readers, is the first birthday of antique-erotic, something of a milestone for this collection of photographs so beautiful, so beloved, and so admired, shared today in a very modern way, such a very long time after they were created.
What began as nothing more than a place to gather my favourites and show perhaps a few appreciative friends, has expanded beyond all expectation : in one year I’ve posted 505 pictures, learnt a great deal and enjoyed the discoveries immensely - and gathered an incredible total of 3,666 followers - that you have enjoyed what I’m doing here is a constant source of delight, that so many share an admiration and appreciation of male beauty and affection in the early years of photography was a surprise indeed, but a very pleasant one. I especially would like to add my gratitude to those who have taken the effort to contact me, to contribute photographs, to keep or pass on the pictures which have most touched your heart or pleased your eye.
The photograph above is the single remarkable image which inspired my interest in erotica of this era, which marked the very beginning of my collecting, and was the very first photo to be presented here. It, more than any, represents the reason this blog came into existance, and there is no more fitting way to mark our first year than with a nod to these darling boys in their extraordinary photoshoot which began it all.

This evening I’ve had the good fortune to receive an image and enquiry from a fellow enthusiast of antique erotic photographs. Although I’ve posted this very picture before (my other copy perhaps a little clearer and pleasantly sepia-toned), I’m more than happy to answer your questions, and share it with those who may not be familiar with this spectacular titlating tableau!
I would estimate a date in the 1880s or 1890s - a remarkable number of pornographic images were created around this time, with distinctive models and individual studios’ backdrops being recognisable in various sets.
However, all is not as it seems with this delightful piece - you are by no means the first to take it at face value and assume an orgy of impressive proportions was taking place : but look a little closer. This is in fact a composite image of six seperate photographs, carefully trimmed and pasted into one intricate scene, which was then reproduced as a print. The most obvious join can be seen just right of centre, from the tip of the fellow’s black-socked toe to the lower edge. Just oneofthese pictures has emerged alone, unedited - the rest are still waiting to be found and shared with the modern audience.

A gorgeous donation from Openshirtlover (a blog which, by the way, may be relevant to at least one of our shared interests, dear readers!), this beautifully sharp and uncropped copy of a photo I’ve featured before but not so clear or unspoilt! Taken in France, in the 1890s - the same studio and indeed the same flamboyantly patterned bed as seen in this similarly salacious picture!
