So, I got an ask, and it’s kind of a topic I want to talk a bit more about, so I decided to make a post instead of just answering the ask. It’s about how Vmin often come across in a very contradicting kind of way, at one moment being ok with something but at other times they aren’t. Or how one might seem cold while the other one is showing affection and also why I think cameras might be a reason. This is a long one, so I hope you find it interesting.
Here is the ask that finally got me talking more properly about this even though I have wanted to write about it forever:
Do you also find that vmin have a very push and pull relationship? When one is clingy, the other will try to act as if it’s bothering him. But as soon as he stops, the other starts pulling back, and it’s an endless cycle. They rarely seem to be in tune (or they are, but constantly want to make it seem like they’re not?). It’s very apparent in the vlive with RM today.
First, Hi and thank you som much for the ask. This vlive was really interesting, which I think shows in how many asks I have gotten about it.
My short answer here is YES. The push and pull is one of the things I noticed about Vmin that seemed a bit odd. Of course I can understand that they might not be on the same page all the time or want to do things like hug at the same time etc. But the thing is that a lot of the push and pull moments seem to be when one of them gets embarrassed or holds back in front of cameras etc.
Especially for Jimin it seems to be his delayed response when he isn’t prepared and notice they are filmed to stop doing things with Taehyung that might be considered too intimate. I also think their natural clinginess could be a reason for why they might avoid doing live vlive alone together. Though they do still do a lot, which makes one wonder why some times it’s ok and other times not. Honestly I can’t really tell, but again, it could simply depend on how a particular moment makes them feel and react, and how aware they are in the situation.
As you say, they keep switching between who is clingy and who is bothered by it. But the fact that it goes both ways and of course that we have plenty of examples when they are both being clingy seems to show us that being clingy and touchy with each other is natural to them.
This is a little bit away from the vlive you mention, where Jimin actually both pushes Tae away physically and also tells him to go away. But I think my examples show that Jimin’s first reaction with Tae is often to be touchy, while his second is to pull away. Also that their actions sometimes seems to change when they notice a camera, or even someone behind the camera.
Example 1: Jimin hears Tae’s teeth clattering, is concerned and turns to give him a hug. It’s his first reaction. Then he turns, look at the camera and pulls away.
Example 2: Jimin is endeared by Tae and touches his hand over his heart. He turns, look off camera, and stops. Though I admit this one is super subtle and could be something else.
Example 3: Jimin is tickling Taehyung, but then turns around and stops as he notice the camera. (His smile fading as he turns around is cut off.)
Example 4: Taehyung also do these things from time to time, and here you can see that he automatically takes hold of Jimin’s hand, but lets go as he looks up and sees the camera.
Example 5: Jimin reaches up to touch Tae, but as soon as he has done it act nonchalant and turns away.
Example 6: Jimin comforts Tae and is very concerned, as he pulls away he notices the camera and starts smiling and acts less intimate with Taehyung.
I think here it would be natural for them to feel awkward at such an intimate moment being filmed. In Burn the stage we also saw Taehyung actually walking away with Jimin from the cameras.
Example 7: Jimin almost seem to forget the cameras or the situation, moving Tae towards him, but Tae’s reaction and stiffness have him change attitude and turn around for a picture.
Example 8: Even members intervene at times. Like here where Hobi tells them there is a camera and they stop playfighting. Though this case could be because they shouldn’t look aggressive.
I mean, look at Jimin’s expression as he turns towards the camera and them letting go of their hands.
Example 9: I could be wrong with all of my interpretations, but for example this one to me looks like Tae is going for one thing first, but then changes his mind and simply pats Jimin’s shoulders. Again, all of these are all just how I think it could be viewed, but it might be far from the truth.
The point is there are reasons to hold back, and I think a lot of the time the push and pull that we see is a product of them not being on the same page on where that line should be drawn.
It’s way too hard to predict exactly why they would feel one way at one moment, and differently at another. Mood, situation, awareness, if it can be considered fanservice etc. there are just too many things that could play into why they act the way they do. Again, not because of a relationship but just in general as well. We know they have to pretend sometimes, and that’s fine, it’s just that some things you aren’t really “supposed” to do or enjoy as a male idol.
But there are also times when they clearly either say “screw it”, forget about it or simply doesn’t care or can’t hold back.
For me it looks like a constant struggle between what is ok to show and what is not, and the two of them might either not be on the same page about it or one of them simply forgets because it goes against their natural way of being together. So what we get is their push and pull dynamics and reactions.
Here for example they seem to both be having fun, until after a while Jimin decides to push Taehyung away, because sometimes they both get caught up in it.
They can also have different responses which could be about mood or just their own awareness or personalities. Like the handholding in the run episode with the scary ride. Taehyung plays it up and Jimin plays it down, almost trying to ignore it and hold back his reaction. Both of them seem a bit off, but in different ways.
I also think Taehyung’s “coldness” could be a result of this. He often wears his heart on his sleeve, and tends to reveal perhaps too much at times. Like when Tae revealed Jimin’s shower habits that the members didn’t even know about. And Jimin desperately tries to signal for him to stop talking.
Jimin is not always prepared for some of the things Taehyung says or does, being caught off guard.
So personally Taehyung looking cold could simply be him keeping his face neutral to not give away too much because he likely know he tends to do that from time to time.
Though I know he also at times simply becomes “blank” and seemingly gets stuck in his own thoughts for reasons we will never know.
At times you can also see Jimin trying to hold back smiles, as if his reactions should be kept more neutral. (Sorry I couldn’t find a better gif of this moment.)
Jimin also loves hiding his face to not show his emotions too clearly.
Or he reacts with playful rejection.
We also have the very fascinating conversation between Vmin when they basically confirmed that they hide some things, and even check that they have compatible answers. Here they are reading over their written interviews together and Tae answered a question about Jimin that he is showing him.
Jimin tries to hold back his smile, gets tense and Taehyung notices. Pulls back and basically asks if Jimin has said that he doesn’t do aegyo to him. Jimin tries to be subtle about it, and shakes his head, this is a silent conversation going on between them and this is just my own guess on it.
Their reactions are cut off, so I suggest you watch the original videos for all the moments I bring up. (This is why I should make videos.)
These are small things that I can’t help but notice as I look closely at Vmin. Now I think it’s also possible that all members sometimes struggle with how much they should show, and also that their physical closeness to each other might feel a bit too much so they all hold back at times. After all, BTS are closer than the average groups, and that is probably seen in their touchiness with each other as well. It’s not strange for them to hold back a little. Meaning I don’t think all these things, though interesting, automatically has to be because of a hidden relationship.
Still, there are plenty of other examples, but I think you get the idea. Vmin are very much on or off, sometimes not being on the same side which I personally think makes them flustered for one reason or the other. Like they aren’t prepared, or they don’t know what will happen. For Jimin who in general is a person who likes being in control I think this is even more obvious. Which is also why when Tae is the one very much on, Jimin tends to get really embarrassed and unsure and sometimes even come off as rude.
I think this is a very interesting aspect of their dynamics, and it wouldn’t surprise me if this is basically their effort to keep a balance between private and professional life. Something that becomes harder around people you are more relaxed around (even if it’s platonic). It’s also one reason for why I think Vmin being real could make more sense than other ships, but I might also have missed similar moments between other members. So, in the end it’s very interesting that they do these things, but it’s obviously really difficult to truly know why they react like this so often.
