The fact I shaved my legs today seems like big news BUT even bigger news is the fact that WARPAINT (a book I did with the amazing author, J.J. Maya) bounces between the #1 & #3 spot for best books on the Kindle Unlimited (international site)! I couldn’t be prouder! (I helped, sure, but props go to J.J. Maya for hustling!–self publishing is hard so give her props!!!–this book just pubbed in March, people!)
(Also, this proves the fact that people are hungry–reading/needing writers & their stories now more than ever! & this is a fun/entertaining read set in the makeup world–from Scotland to NYC–& even deals with the immigration topic in a delightful way … No, really! The characters are charming &, well–read & find out for yourself!)
I know you are probably thinking this is more of a romantic image & the #writingprompt should be about a romantic situation but nah… In my (twisted?) mind, I’m seeing her (or him!) as a stealthy pickpocket-using this opportunity to steal… For all you romance authors, maybe they’re both pickpockets & this moment is their #meetcute … (I’ll give you a great discount if you use me as an editor on this!)
We’re all going through a tough time & we’re all in this together. I know you think writing is a luxury but it’s not–books can save lives (I’ve heard it throughout this crisis especially)–so, if you can comfortably use my help, please do! I’m offering 25% off everything …
That means editorial assessments are only $525 & developmental reads are $675! Writing coaching–for 3 months–is only $450 (a month)!
Now that you know writing is necessary (you did read yesterday’s message, right?) perhaps you should start writing? Here’s a #writingprompt to get you going…
I just got an email from another editor that said they guess the silver lining to all of this is that more people are reading & writing… So, still think writing is a luxury? Nah. Writing is essential. YOU are essential. YOU are needed. Keep writing.
Here is another note by a writer/reader that I thought I’d share…
Are you able to write? (I understand that it could be hard-it’s hard for me to concentrate too!) If so (& good for you! As hard as it is to read, reading is keeping me sane), here’s a #writingprompt…
[I say, Go Into Those Woods-Be Prepared/Bring Your Weapon Of Choice-& Do What Ya Gotta… That’s my contribution, feel free to use it & contact me for a [majorly] discounted read!]
We’ve all been there, right?-well, most of us have…
Here’s a #writingprompt for you! Remember, I’ll read for a discount (also remember, I’m already running a 75% discount)… Geez, people! I want to read!!!
It seems a lot of people don’t know what an Editorial Assessment is (but love the idea of a $175 read).
Anyway, I’m gonna break it down for you very simply: I read THE ENTIRE BOOK & give you some notes (not as detailed as Track Changes *in* the text) & pretty much end by my overall opinion.
This read is often used before querying (if you publish traditionally)-it’s what an agent might do when they first read (so doing edits *before* helps you avoid problems & possible rejection). It’s a very good read *before* you self publish too, as you can catch any mistakes (even plot holes or character inconsistencies) & have a more professional/professional-sounding book. (In fact, I urge you to do this-even if it’s not with me… but I’m betterhahahaha!)
As we head into week 8 (or is it week 9 or week 50 now?) of shelter-at-home, I wonder if this is our “new normal.” I mean, nothing is normal BUT that’s because I’m comparing it to life before … Back when I did editorial assessments for $700–but now, who can afford $700? Maybe this new offer of 75% off–$175–is going to be the new normal? Right now, it expires in a month … (though, like stay-at-home orders, I’m sure I’ll extend it!)
Anyway, a read from a pro is good (something I always advise) but a discounted read from a pro???–GREAT! Now, I know your brother-in-law, Bob, volunteered to read/edit for free (& free is better than great, right?!?) & Bob graduated from Harvard with a BA in English (wow!) HOWEVER, Bob went to Harvard in ‘74 (before I was born & the rules of the game have changed) so might I suggest you start investing in yourself? I thought long & hard about this (seriously, 75% off is no joke! I am a NYT Best Selling agent-turned-editor! I have won awards for my books! I have yeeeears of experience!–meaning, I know things), & I decided I only want to help. So, please, help me help you! Have me do your read before you try querying or before you self pub.
(Also, if I work with you, you can consider me a friend & advocate in this industry–which is helpful because this business is tough!)
This#writingprompt reminds me of #stephenking#misery … I can see a new/rising star (or just someone getting their 15 min of fame) & finding their own crazed fan… I would totally read that (for a discount)! Contact me…
Today is Earth Day (I think? Honestly, I can’t keep up with stuff these days…). Enjoy this zine-inspired FGB art/ad (? whatever) I made last year (see?-I need to use last years because this year everything is going to sh*t. Pardon my language…).
Here’s your next writing prompt! My mind tends to go darker towards these things… This one reminds me of Megan Abbott’s DARE ME-fun/carefree, beautiful, popular girls whose games get edgier & more dangerous… (Hit me up for a discount if this is something similar to what you’re writing!)
