TheCCR is a project that resides at the intersection of mathematics, marine biology, handicraft and community art practice, and also responds to the environmental crisis of global warming and the escalating problem of oceanic plastic trash. It has been exhibited in art and science museums worldwide, including the Andy Warhol Museum (Pittsburgh), The Hayward (London), the Science Gallery (Dublin), and the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History (Washington D.C.) Seen by more than three million people, the CCR is one of the largest participatory science + art projects in the world.
Through its Satellite Reef program, the Institute’s team has held lectures and workshops on five continents to teach the techniques of reef-making, and the related science and math, to local communities. Since 2005 the IFF has continued to build this global network that now includes more than 7000 active citizens.

Row 1: 6 sc in MR Row 2: 2sc in each st (12 st) Row 3: 1sc, 2sc in same st, repeat (18st) Rows 4-9: Sc around (18 st) Row 10: 1 sc, decrease, repeat (12st) Stuff head with poly fill. Row 11: Decrease 6 times (6 st) Fasten off and sew closed. Turn sideways, sew on black beads for eyes and using black sportweight yarn, embroider nose and mouth.
Ears
In MR, 2 sc, chain 2, make picot by doing a slip stitch into the first of the two chains, and then two more sc in the ring. Tighten ring, fasten off, and leave a tail long enough to sew to head.
Paws
6 sc in magic ring. Row 1: Sc in each stitch (6 st) Rows 2-4: Repeat Row 1 (6 st) Fasten off and leave tail to sew onto stocking.
Assembly
Sew paws to top edge of stocking. Sew ears to top of head. Stuff stocking with poly fill and sew head over top of stocking. Add ribbon for a bow, if you’d like :)
