Welcome to our first K-pop lesson! This one was requested by @mintalavanda, who suggested RM’s rap verse. I’m sorry this took so long to post ㅠㅠPlease let me know what song you’d like to see next!

I’ll put the original Korean lyrics followed by the English translation, and break each sentence down so we can really understand what is being said.

난 왜 널 만난 걸까

Why is it that I met you

난 - 나 (I) + 은 (topic particle)

왜 - why

널 - 너 (you) + 을 (object particle)

만난 - conjugated from 만나다 (to meet)

걸까 - abbreviated from 것일까 ([why] is it that)

하필 바로 지금 여기 이 겨울날

Of all places, right here and now this winter day

하필 - of all things (expresses exasperation/frustration)

바로 - exactly / right (as in righthere)

지금 - now

여기 - here

이 - this

겨울날 - 겨울 (winter) + 날 (day)

눈 감으면 봄은 아득하고

When I close my eyes, spring is far away [and]

눈 - eye(s)

감으면 - conjugated from 감다 (to close)

봄은 - 봄 (spring) + 은 (topic particle)

아득하고 - conjugated from 아득하다 (to be far away)

여긴 찬 숨만 가득한데

This place is full of cold breath

여긴 - 여기 (this place / here) + 은 (topic particle)

찬 - from 차다 (to be cold)
