My roomate and I are disabled, trans and homeless. We are getting a check from a legal proceeding soon, and we will be able to use it to get an apartment, but the person helping facilitate a lot of that is having family issues she’s resolving first.

We’ve been behind on the hotel bill, but are now caught up. We need to maintain that, and I have urgent medical needs I need the funds to cover. I don’t wanna spill my medical issues publicly but dm me for details if you feel the need.

My roomates art is above and if you d0nate $50 or more and dm me a pet pic, he will draw for you.

I wish that people who want our society to “return to traditional values” or whatever the fuck would realize that that’s a pointless desire to have. A universal fact that those types need to accept is that cultural change is inevitable. You cannot stop or reverse it. Cultures naturally change over time and that’s been the case for all of human existence. It is an inherent part of human existence and their desire to keep it from happening is completely futile. It’s a waste of time and resources to try to stop it.

Change in general is so inevitable that it’s one of the only sure things in the universe that you can rely on. Our cultures will continue to change for as longs as humans continue to exist and there ain’t shit anyone can do about it! Accept it and go with the flow. Fighting that flow won’t help you. You’ll just be stuck in the past while the rest of us grow and surpass you

Cultures are just like the organisms that make them up. You know what happens when an organism no longer changes? When it no longer accepts new material or expells old material? It dies. At best it leaves behind a skeleton.

Hundreds if not thousands of vibrant cultures have been killed in the names of imperial hegemony & national homogeneity.

Fascists think they can metaphorically burn the perceived “other” and use the ashes to fertilize their own culture, but time and again we’ve seen that those ashes don’t land on the farmland, they just stay in the sky and blot out the sun so that nothing grows.

And “traditional values” from when, exactly? Every generation that complains about how “today’s youth” are disrespectful and are abandoning traditional values was, just a few decades earlier, the “youth of today” that their parents’ generation claimed were abandoning traditional values.

The oldest example of this that a quick google could turn up was this Socrates quote. There’s a similar quote from a clay tablet written in Akkadian, which would make it considerably older than Socrates (and keep in mind that he lived around 2400 years ago), but that one may or may not be a hoax.

I could give a reasoned debate, but the fact that this comes from a blog that seems to be extraordinarily horny for the apocalypse says enough.

lol no you can’t

‘‘Harm reduction was established in the 1980s as a public health strategy for people dealing with substance use issues who struggle with abstinence. According to the Harm Reduction Coalition (HRC) the principles of harm reduction establish that the identified behavior is ‘part of life’ so they ‘choose not to ignore or condemn but to minimize harmful effects’ and work towards breaking social stigmas towards ‘safer use.’ The HRC also states that, ‘there is no universal definition of or formula for implementing harm reduction.’ Overall, harm reduction focuses on reducing adverse impacts associated with harmful behaviors.

The proposition of ‘harm reduction’ in the context of voting means something entirely different from those organizing to address substance use issues. The assertion is that ‘since this political system isn’t going away, we’ll support politicians and laws that may do less harm.’

[..] While so many on the left–including some Indigenous radicals–are concerned with consolidation of power into fascists hands, they fail to recognize how colonial power is already consolidated.

There is nothing intersectional about participating in and maintaining a genocidal political system. There’s no meaningful solidarity to be found in a politics that urges us to meet our oppressors where they’re at.

Voting as harm reduction imposes a false solidarity upon those identified to be most vulnerable to harmful political policies and actions. In practice it plays out as paternalistic identity politicking as liberals work to identify the least dangerous candidates and rally to support their campaigns. The logic of voting as harm reduction asserts that whoever is facing the most harm will gain the most protection by the least dangerous denominator in a violently authoritarian system. This settler-colonial naivety places more people, non-human beings, and land at risk then otherwise. Most typically the same liberal activists that claim voting is harm reduction are found denouncing and attempting to suppress militant direct actions and sabotage as acts that ‘only harm our movement.’ ‘Voting as harm reduction’ is the pacifying language of those who police movements.

[..] Under colonial occupation all power operates through violence. There is absolutely nothing “less harmful” about participating in and perpetuating the political power of occupying forces. Voting won’t undue settler colonialism, white supremacy, hetero-patriarchy, or capitalism. Voting is not a strategy for decolonization. The entire process that arrived at the ‘Native vote’ was an imposition of U.S. political identity on Indigenous Peoples fueled by white supremacy and facilitated by capitalism.

–Indigenous Action, “Voting is Not Harm Reduction” (2020)

nice liberal cop-out tho

Well now you have to listen because someone not horny for apocalypse said it

it’s weird when i step outside of my firmly anti-diet social circle and hear a person talking about doing some pretty severe calorie restriction as if that’s totally normal. like how the fuck do i even begin explaining to someone i barely know that eating only 1300 calories a day is extremely bad for you and that basically everything they think they know about nutrition is false.

the average thin person is so afraid of becoming fat that they’ll do things which are extremely bad for them on every level with zero upsides (calorie restriction is even likely to cause future weight gain!) and this is completely normalized in mainstream culture. anti-fat discrimination is so deeply ingrained in the systems of our society and it’s so fucked.

crastinating:

Structural violence creates lopsided structures of the imagination. Those on the bottom of the heap have to spend a great deal of imaginative energy trying to understand the social dynamics that surround them—including having to imagine perspectives of those on the top—while the latter wander about largely oblivious to much of what is going on around them. That is, the powerless not only end up doing most of the actual, physical labor that is required to keep society running, they also do most the interpretive labor as well.

— David Graeber, Dead Zones of the Imagination

You can read the rest of the article here in the Journal of Ethnographic Theory— it’s worth the time

inthis conversation about his book elite capture: how the powerful took over identity politics (& everything else), olúfẹ́mi o. táíwò says that the powerful (i think he specifies the democratic party here) not only don’t have any answers, they also don’t have any questions.

i’m always suspicious of claims to ignorance, especially given that they quickly become claims to guiltlessness, but graeber’s writing is making a compelling case for me.

(note that the quoted passage above comes from The Utopia of Rules: On Technology, Stupidity, and the Secret Joys of Bureaucracy, and not the linked essay.)
