Shortly after the McElroys started Amnesty, I began running my own Monster of the week campaign. I stopped working on my comic around the same time so it became a great way to still explore world-building and storytelling, albeit to a much more specific audience. My group consists of Laura Brown a Monsterous traffic warden who consumes others misery, Mox Folder, a Flake who just wants to do the right thing, The Mark, A Professional who will do anything to please her agency and Prudence Weatherby, an Expert who is the figurative (and in Moxs case, literal) mother of the group. I’m about halfway through my planned story and its a real joy to watch my group play and react to the game in ways I could never have planned for.

hi everyone! again i am very sorry for the inactivity, i will try to be more active soon!!!! for now i’d like y’all who like ROLEPLAYAND DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS to listen up… if you wanna!
i’d like to introduce you all to KILCELA, HEART OF HEROES! it is a pathfinder-slash-dnd-flavored open-world written roleplay server that i have been following the development of for almost a year! (i am a mod in there now, but i haven’t always been!)
it has features, such as:
- character creation (obviously)
- a dungeon world (think d&d themed monster of the week/apocalypse world) based system that involves stuff like dice rolling during rp!
- LGBT+ inclusivity!!! we are all gay here
- ability to create and run adventures as a DM, or join an open adventure to earn EXP and cool perks for your character!
- different location channels!
-roleplay events such as festivals, parties and the occasional barbecue!!!
- overall just a good time!!! the mod team is friendly and approachable, if i do say so myself!
i play my dwarven ranger gnock in there, he’s a grumpy old man and he has a cat!!

We are starting a new tabletop game sometime in the future. New PBTA system–Monster of the Week, where its basically spooky scary mystery solving, one-off monsters fighting sessions. Character roles based off of characters seen in spooky monster fighting shows, like Buffy, Supernatural, X-Files. Our campaign in particular is set in 1990s Santa Cruz area. This is Joey Gallagher, the Flake– a conspiracy theorist. She is a college student who works at 7-11 and gathers monster info with her girlfriend Bobbi.

Seeing comments in the TAZ Amnesty saying the game sounds really scripted vs people playing ala Balance/DnD so figured I could give some insight since my friends and I have also been playing MotW since February.
Amnesty is pretty true to play to how MotW genuinely goes down. It’s very much just the game play mechanics and how the core rule book tells you to play. We sometimes will have games (we usually go 4-5 hours) where you only have to role a handful of times. It’s all RP storytelling driven and specifies that players and keepers need to describe every move you make in detail as if living out a book/movie/etc. and a lot of feee wheeling creativity in what you do Vs say DnD where you have a ton of game mechanics.
It has its drawbacks and advantages, but it’s a pretty easy (though challenging combat wise since your health is so small) game to learn as long as you’re comfortable with acting and getting creative. I play a few different games in various systems and defiantly recommend this one for newbies to table toping!

my tabletop group’s diceroll bot, dice maiden, who loves to torture us
we play MotW, so everything is 2d6- they roll a six and above, she needs both hands. a six is still a failure, but it can be saved with a helping hand. they get so lucky as an eleven? one eye opens. a twelve? the other eye, and fate looks kindly on them.
five and under… well now she has a hand free to lift the mask, she can look and laugh at your futile efforts
There’s a moment when she first wakes up, before Ofelia can check her eyes, where she doesn’t know if what she saw when she slept was a nightmare or a premonition.

Ofelia’s powers have been growing over the course of our sessions, and while her horns aren’t quite this robust yet they’ve started growing in. We’ll see how things go as Ofelia starts to realize weird powers and horns aren’t the only thing staring into the abyss has changed in her potential corruption arc what
My new Monster of the Week character might also be a brunette with a strong jaw but unlike Henry, Ofelia is impulsive and unprepared for the world she’s stumbled into. Last session she threw herself into the sea with just a life jacket and a big knife. Did she do alot to help free the trapped Hippocampus? Yes. Did she get lightly bit by a shark? Also yes.
I am going to have so much fun with this dumbass.
