There was a crude window hewn into the outside wall, the low murmur from the street managing to fill the silence that sat between them for a moment as Azrail absently fiddled with the pendant around his neck.
The simple bone charm was the only thing left he had of his parents.
It was a crudely fashioned Mjölnir, Thor’s hammer.
His mother had always said he had the norse god’s strength, but Azrail had always thought the stories of old gods and religion were just that, stories. He had never been a strong believer in anything, but whenever he held the pendant in his hand at times of uncertainty, it was almost something akin to a prayer.
