vavandeveresfan:

Leah Gallo Photography has done several portraits for Tim Burton films, including Miss Peregrine’s.  I absolutely love these.  They capture the feeling of the period perfectly, as well as the personalities of the characters.

I love V.A.’s expression.  And that the photographer included the VAV Enterprises logo.

Summary:

It’s Christmas Eve in New York City, 2021.  V.A. Vandevere, billionaire playboy and Impresario of Dreamland, leads a secret, double life.  Milly Farrier, 18, leads a miserable life as the intern of billionaire financier J.G. Remington. Their paths cross, triggering murder, a robbery at Cartier’s, and inescapable lust.

Chapter 1 is up on AO3!  Give it a try!

Why did I watch it?

  • It was next up on The Lady’s Netflix queue. One of those discs that sat around for the better half of a season before we finally acquiesced and watched it.

Random IMDB Trivia:

  • The filmmakers have said in interviews their story is based on a 2001 National Public Radio “All Things Considered” report about two women in the Seattle suburbs who started a biohazard removal/cleaning service. They are best friends, not sisters.

Netflix Rating: 3 out of 5

1 Thing I Liked About It:

  • It had it’s charm, mostly due to Amy Adams, who I’ve had a soft spot for since Junebug. Oh and Clifton Collins Jr, who is excellent in pretty much everything.

1 Thing I Didn’t Like About It:

  • It ended up being mostly forgettable. Not sure there’s really enough there to justify a whole film.

my top five 1960s films

fight me on these, if you dare

5.Mary Poppins(1964)

a movie that everyone has seen. on the list for obvious reasons.

4.To Kill A Mockingbird(1962)

it probably looks boring because many are forced to read the book in school but it’s good. and i love gregory peck.

3.Charade(1963)

known as the best hitchcock movie hitchcock never made. my favorite film with my favorite people. it leaves you in suspense and twists so often, you won’t know what to expect.

2.Lawrence of Arabia(1962)

(look at those eyes)

this film is three and a half hours long, but doesn’t fail to keep the viewer engaged. ali and lawrence are a canon gay couple, according to director, david lean. it also features poc characters played by poc actors (with the exception of alec guinness, he really shouldn’t have been cast). and peter o'toole is pretty.

1.Wait Until Dark(1967)

another audrey hepburn film. according to stephen king, this is the scariest movie ever made. in short, blind audrey hepburn is terrorized by alan arkin and friends.

I’m happy to see Steve Carrell do something serious for once. Working with Paul Dano always works, I suppose.
