Lowkey, Luca studying to be a special educations teacher has my heart right now
Like, don’t get me wrong, he has a strong passion for astronomy, but it’s more like a hobby at this point in his life. He realized that he isn’t the only person out there who started school late or who really struggles trying to learn. He took some psych courses in high school and also helped out as a student aid for the childhood development class at the school (idk if that class existed back then, but let’s just roll w it). He realized that helping people with learning disabilities or people who started late is what he really wants to do.
It hits close to home for him and if he can help, then he will.

Alright I need the the fandoms opinion. What does Luca become when he grows up? I must know your thoughts. An astronomer? A professor? An astronaut? A children’s teacher? A marine biologist? What?! It is imperative that I know because he needs to end up with Alberto and what he does affects that. Will Alberto have to leave Portorosso? Where will they live??
I have a few ideas in mind for my fic but I cannot decide what Luca is going to do.
Like imagine Alberto deciding to travel the world but Luca chooses his career over his childhood dream. Imagine Alberto being the one to leave this time, deciding that he’s going to travel the world even though he waited so long for Luca to go with him, for him to finish school. And Luca won’t go because he chooses his own life and career to pursue but he’s also afraid. Because let’s face it. It’s like what? 1950s/1960s and homophobia. And it’s not like it’s the first time Luca has rejected Alberto to save his own skin. But imagine Luca expecting Alberto to stay in Portorosso and wait like he always has but this time Alberto is leaving and Luca realizes that he’s going to lose him (even if Alberto will eventually come back for his family) he’s going to lose this chance and last minute he chases after Alberto and he goes with him- ACK
Bro I feel like if they did leave, Alberto would actually hesitate so much. Like that was his lifelong dream, to travel with Luca… but it felt like everything went by so fast? Where did the time go? He could actually leave now?? Idk I feel like he’d secretly have very mixed feelings about it and would be a ball of anxiety and start acting out, even being irritable and rude to Luca. Finally breaking, he explains to Luca and the two share this moment where Luca just silently understands and comforts him. But Luca tells him that Portorosso will always be here. “Silenzio, Bruno. Remember? We can do this.” After a bit of time, Alberto agrees and they leave to go travel for Luca’s job. Plus, they think Portorosso is a nice retiring spot :)
OR alternatively, Luca chooses to stay in Portorosso and wait for Alberto to be ready. Alberto waited so long for Luca. Maybe this time it was his turn to wait. They have the rest of their lives to travel! Why rush it?
So, I was writing a short fic for this drawing I did, but it’s taking a little longer than I had hoped. It’s not that I lost motivation, I’ll still finish it, but it’ll be a few days. I decided to post the drawing tho bc I’m tired of not posting anything at all lol (and yes, the rooftop is overlooking the sea where Alberto’s island is)
Okay, so I am currently writing a short fic rn about Luca and Alberto (aged up ofc), but while writing, I introduced a character named Marina Agosti. If you watch the movie, the scene where Luca and Alberto first show up to the town where the fountain is, Luca looks around and you get to see all of the shops and all that, right?
Well one of the shops is called Trattoria da Marina (basically a “trattoria” is sort of like a fast food place when I googled it–correct me if I’m wrong tho). Well I saw that and I was like *slams fists down on table*new character time!
Basically, Marina is this girl who is a year younger than Giulia and Luca (Alberto=18, Luca and Giulia=17, and Marina=16). I don’t have her completely fleshed out, and I do plan on drawing her, but for right now, the way she’s described in my fic: she has long black curly hair, olive skin like Alberto, a pointed nose with a strong bridge, blue eyes, and she’s pretty chaotic but not in the way that Giulia and Alberto are. Instead of being really goofy and weird™, she’s chaotic in the sense that she’s really outgoing and kind of “badass.” She’s only 16 and she is already pretty independent, so a lot of the kids in the town look up to her and wish that they could be more like her. She’s not afraid to be confrontational in situations that Giulia would usually get flustered in, and she’s always ready to kick someone’s ass. She’s the one person in the town that Ercole straight up doesn’t mess with–he never talks about why, but he seems pretty scarred by it (obviously when she’s 16, Ercole is a grown ass man and big regetti the spaghetti he hates his younger self lol).
I haven’t figured out how Giulia and Marina meet, but I think what might be the case is that Alberto makes friends with Marina first, during the first year that Luca and Giulia leave. Y'know, Alberto’s doing his rounds delivering fish or some shit. They’re both hella charismatic so they get along quite famously. Even though Alberto has Massimo around, it’s nice for him to make a friend that’s roughly his own age.
When Giulia and Luca return from school the following summer, they already know abt Marina from Alberto’s letters. No hard feelings, tho. I don’t feel like Luca is the jealous type, he’s just happy that someone can be there for his best friend while he’s away (very mature thinking for his age :P ).
For her home life, she’s got 3 younger siblings (haven’t come up with any names yet, so feel free to suggest some–any gender too). She doesn’t go to school, like Alberto, because she’s busy helping her dad run their fast food place that her mother started back when Marina’s dad and her were first married. She was named after her mother. After the birth of Marina’s 3rd sibling, her mother fell ill and passed away. So her father really needed all the help he could get and that meant she had to sacrifice her education. Unlike Luca, Alberto, and Giulia, she acts like learning is for losers (tho, eventually it becomes something she and Giulia bond over–Giulia tricks her into learning lmao).
At 16 years old, she’s usually seen smoking a cig outside her father’s shop or running after the 3 little ones. She and Alberto talk before they both start work. There was one summer where her dad actually hired Giulia and Luca to help them.
When she first meets Luca and Giulia, she absolutely adored Luca. She and Giulia also really hit it off and they became pen-pals as well. She and Alberto would write letters together and update Giulia and Luca throughout the school year.
She starts to develop feelings for Giulia at some point–again, this is all rushed atm bc I only just came up w this–but at first, she tries to deny it. She actually takes a very long time coming to terms with it because her father is homophobic (like most people in the town, Alberto and Luca only really get away with holding hands and being affectionate bc the townspeople figure its a sea monster thing, and well, Europeans are a little more touchy-feely in general. Many people there still hold prejudices against sea monsters anyway tho, so like, the tolerance really only stretches so far). But yeah. Giulia ends up coming out at some point and she tells Marina about this girl she secretly has a thing with at school. Marina hates talking about that stuff with her tho bc of her own internalized homophobia and bc of the feelings of jealousy it brings up.
This causes strain on their friendship for a while, but it eventually gets sorted out. She doesn’t confess to Giulia yet tho. It’s probably the ONE area that she gets flustered and insecure about.
I feel like Giulia and her would probably get together before Giulia leaves for college tho–as like a last minute “Hey I really like you and I want you to come back to this stupid town bc I like looking at your face, you fucking loser, no homo” type of deal.

That’s a lot, and it will probably change up and all that, but I wanted to get my thoughts out bc Giulia deserves a cute gf
