Wonderful photos from the “I Can Spin a Rainbow” tour with Amanda Palmer, Patrick Q. Wright (violin), and Edward Ka-Spel (of the Legendary Pink Dots & Tear Garden). Having loved the Pink Dots since the late 80’s, I’m truly honoured that Amanda chose to wear my Kambriel Firebird gown for this occasion!

The lyrics to this are so perfectly Amanda Palmer, imagine my surprise to discover it’s a DORIS DAMN DAY song from 1960. Both versions are

Just a heads up, never try and draw a pinecone. They’re hard. D: This was all cut from a single sheeJust a heads up, never try and draw a pinecone. They’re hard. D: This was all cut from a single shee

Just a heads up, never try and draw a pinecone. They’re hard. D: This was all cut from a single sheet of card.

This is my first entry for Neil Gaiman’s Keep Moving project. It’s for the story for September, which you can read for free here:

http://keepmoving.blackberry.com/assets/desktop/pdf/acot-stories.pdf
(Please read them, they’re amazing.)

The project is asking artists to illustrate each of the stories, and then Neil will pick out his favourites to be included in the final version. Mine depicts the lion ring and a pinecone as they fall through the air and into the water.

If you like to then please please reblog it. :)

This is my entry for the March Tale in Neil Gaiman’s ‘A Calender of Tales’ project. It shows Anne Bonny, old and young, with the ship she so desires in the centre.

I’m really pleased with how this turned out, I thought I’d really push myself this time because I find people pretty hard to draw and make paper cuts of. I love the project, I think it’s encouraged me to do some of my best and most interesting work. The second and third photos are to show what it looks like unmounted; I really like how the shadows play on the wall.

The Dresden Dolls - Good Day (Live: In Paradise 2005)

So you don’t wanna hear about my good song?
You don’t wanna hear about how I am getting on
With all the things that I can get done
The sun is in the sky and I am by my lonesomeSo you don’t wanna hear about my good day?
You have better things to do than to hear me say
God, it’s been a lovely day, everything’s been going my way
I took out the trash today and I’m on fireSo you don’t wanna hear about my good friends
You don’t have the guts to take the truth or consequence
Success is in the eye of the beholder
And it’s looking even better over your cold shoulderI’m not suggesting you get to line me up for questioning
But Jesus think about the bridges you are burning and I’m betting
That even though you knew it from the start
You’d rather be a bitch than be an ordinary broken heartSo go ahead and talk about your bad day
I want all the details of the pain and misery
That you are inflicting on the others
I consider them my sisters and I want their numbersGod, it’s been a lovely day, everything’s been going my way
I took up croquet today, I’m on fire
I picked up the pieces of my broken ego
I have finally made my peace as far as you and me goBut I’d love to have you up to see the place
I’d like to do more than survive, I’d like to rub it in your faceHey, it’s been a lovely day, everything is going my way
I had so much fun today and I’m on fire
God, it’s been a lovely day every thing’s been going my way
Ever since you went away, hey, I’m on fireI’m on fire, I’m on fire, I’m on
I’m on fire, I’m on fire
I’m on fire, I’m on
So you don’t wanna hear about my good day?

Queen of Swords for the Amanda Palmer Tarot Deck (Kickstarter coming soon).

Digital, 2013.

So I just got the all-clear to post this.

Here’s the backstory: four years ago, I was one of the artists selected for the Amanda Palmer tarot deck- I managed to get one of the royal cards. For nineteen year old me, this was a BIG FUCKING DEAL. My god, was I ever excited. Despite school, I managed to paint my card and send it in on time.

The other artists (well, many of them) and myself shared our work with each other, and the art produced for the deck was gorgeous. I was so proud to be a part of such a pretty deck, and I couldn’t wait for it to be released.

Then, the project sort of…got dropped. None of us ever got a full explanation. To be fair, at the time Amanda’s team were juggling several projects at once- a deck was low priority.

Flash forward to late December 2012 (early January 2013?): I got an email from two of the artists. They have a plan to get the damn thing printed. They were trying to get in contact with as many as the original artists as possible, collected their artwork, and finally release the deck to the public.

I don’t listen to Amanda Palmer as much as I used to. I disagree with quite a few of her recent actions. But I remembered how lovely much of the artwork was, and I remembered how much fun it was to talk to the other artists & work alongside them. Most of all, I remembered how much I wanted the deck to be released.

So I emailed them back and asked if I could redo my card before I sent it in. This is the result.

The deck is going to be funded by a fan-run Kickstarter and, unlike the original project, all the artists will be paid royalties. I’ll link to the KS when it goes up, because while I’m not much of an AP fan anymore, I really do love this project.

On a more lulzy note, here’s my original card:

….Yeaaaaah, even though I wish it hadn’t taken four years to get to this project to finish, I’m really glad this didn’t get printed. God, you can tell I was only 19.

HOLY CRAP! congrats!!! I’ll keep my eyes peeled to see he Kick starters!!

I could make a dress A robe fit for a prince I could clothe a continent But i can’t sew a stit

I could make a dress
A robe fit for a prince
I could clothe a continent
But i can’t sew a stitch

I can paint my face
And stand very very still
Its not very practical
But it still pays the bills

I can’t change my name
But i could be your type
I can dance and win at games
Like backgammon and life

I used to be the smart one
Sharp as a tack
Funny how that skipping years ahead
Has held me back

I used to be the bright one
Top in my class
Funny what they give you when you
Just learn how to ask

I can write a song
But i cant sing in key
I can play piano
But i never learned to read

I can’t trap a mouse
But i can pet a cat
No i’m really serious!
I’m really very good at that

I can’t fix a car
But i can fix a flat
I could fix alot of things
But i’d rather not get into that

I used to be the bright one
Smart as a whip
Funny how you slip so far when
Teachers dont keep track of it

I used to be the tight one
The perfect fit
Funny how those compliments can
Make you feel so full of it

I can shuffle cut and deal
But i can’t draw a hand
I can’t draw a lot of things
I hope you understand
I’m not exceptionally shy
But i’ve never had a man
That i could look straight in the eye
And tell my secret plans

I can take a vow
And i can wear a ring
And i can make you promises but
They won’t mean a thing

Can’t you do it for me, i’ll pay you well
Fuck i’ll pay you anything if you could end this

Can’t you just fix it for me, it’s gone berserk…
Fuck i’ll give you anything if
You can make the damn thing work

Can’t you just fix it for me, ill pay you well,
Fuck ill pay you anything
If you can end this
Hello, i love you will you tell me your name?
Hello, i’m good for nothing - will you love me just the same?

amandapalmer:

as some of you have seen unfold on here, my book - “THE ART OF ASKING” - is officially DONE. inspired by my TED talk and also sort of a memoir, i’ve been doing almost nothing else since january…but after months of intense writing, editing, and reading aloud for the audiobook, it soon finds its way to you and i’ll embark on a little signing tour in support of it. i can’t wait for you to hopefully read (or listen).

it’s about…everything.
