Okay sometimes I think about how long an Andalite tail would have to be in order to do all the fighting in front of their bodies but I’ve finally solved the problem.

Slinky.

When an Andalite is born they fall straight to the ground and the mother kicks them until they get up and try to commit genocide

Ok so as I’ve mentioned in the past I’ve never actually read Animorphs, so I’m literally a fake fan, but I found this post and was intrigued enough to give this design a shot. I also used the fan wiki for reference.

Probably the biggest change I made was making the hooves mandibular instead of just… absorbing grass… because that strikes me as a really inefficient way to meet your energy requirements as a large herbivorous animal. It was also fun trying to turn fingernails into teeth– I tried to imply an evolutionary history where the six limbs were derived from mouthparts, with similarities between the hands and feet, and the arms remaining in sort of a jaw position.

One of my reinterpretation of andalites, from Animorphs.

I made this for Simon Lee’s creature design class- I highly recommend it.

You can support my sculpture work and see my other (way more alien) interpretations on my page at any level: https://www.patreon.com/monarobot

I am a total coward who loves drawing hot, typical, Romas Kukalis-esque andalites, and so I am such a sucker for Mona’s gorgeous, weird, alien designs that still feel so true to the book descriptions and the andalites’ whole ✨vibes✨

I have been trying to figure out ways to visually distinguish Andalites from each other by varying different things like height and build and levels of fluff. Crucially, I wanted to do this while keeping the Andalites looking relatively similar (especially these three since they’re all related.)

Then I remembered something about using shapes to establish a motif. In this case I tried using Squarangles, Yield Signs, and The Round Shape to accent the basic design. I think it worked!

(Note: I did not draw their tails because the tails would’ve just looked the same across the board and made the page very busy. Imagine they are all doing a High Five with their tails.)

animorphs fanartists & that one cover artist deciding andalite women are purple is so funny to me

I plan on diversifying this a bit. Purpble boys. Dark midnight girl. Maroon girl. Green boy. Green girl. And that blue/pink cotton candy color combo. Estrid is blue canonically, I think. What about Orange. Maybe it’s fur dye. I like the idea of Andalite fur dye. Give me the orange Andalites. Maybe I will make an OC who is consistently a different color. Like a cuttlefish. Blurple. Can you imagine an Andalite that looks like a banana?

based. give andalites cosmetic freedom over their appearances today

God, headcanon time.

So we know that like a big time disgrace thing for andalites is getting patches of fur shaved off their haunches or whatever.

So punk andalites being the most transgressive as possible by shaving cool patterns into their fur.

Then they come to earth post war and people are like ‘wow cool pattern’ and the andalites are like “NO! don’t you understand??? It’s EDGY!!!”

And it’s like, basically an etched cutiemark

OH OH OH. LIKE THE CAMELS.

This is one of the neatest things I have ever seen and I have so many feels about it. And the best part is, it’s a haircut. You could retain it through morphs. There wouldn’t be any worry about it going away if you have to turn into a seagull for a bit. Yessssss. Andalites with fur art.

so i used an ai to generate some andalites and this is what i got:

so i decided to draw them all! some of these turned out so well, i want to incorporate features into how i regularly draw andalites

1: weird cat guy. torsoless andalite truthers are gonna love this one. i dig the way it rendered the hooves

2: this cute little guy! i’m in love with their little tan toupee and the smaller eyes. the leg joints are all kinds of messed up though

3: this weird willowy dude. the face is soooo appealing to me!! look at them. very fun i think

4. sphinx cat?? i was super tempted to give them one single eye because of the way it was rendered but i decided against it in favor of keeping them Actually An Andalite, more or less

5. very strange upright andalite. almost went full minotaur, but six limbs are a must.

6. weirdly elegant. i really like the pattern it rendered on their tail! too complicated, but pretty. i also dig the sloped shoulders

7. a vecol! this one was not only missing a leg, but a head as well. i just went ahead and gave them the andalite head i usually draw. i think this one turned out the most “normal”

8. little freak. i wanna punt it

and finally, 9. fetal andalite? something abt this one feels deeply wrong.

anyway. this was really fun and i encourage anyone who wants to try this to go for it. i’d also love to hear your opinions! which of these dudes do you think is the most appealing?

I tried this and got many different and interesting results.

It definitely knows what an Andalite and a Hork-Bajir are, and it tried to replicate an Animorphs book cover.

So that’s neat. I really like the Kangaroo armed Andalite.

But then it told me I am a picturesque European village. Alas.

I think the ai thinks Yeerk means shirt.

So I gave the kangaroo armed Andalite a shot and I actually like how it looks. I mean, it’s a bit too cute for Animorphs, but it certainly does look like a centaur space deer that I would love.

Tobias totally taught Ax how high-fiving works and they have a deal that whenever Tobias makes a joke in human morph and Ax recognises it they high five. Tobias does it with no change in inflection or expression but Ax takes this “cultural lesson” very seriously so they’re getting real good at it. Marco hates it. He’s so jealous and every time they do it he rolls his eyes and says something about how smug is a really bad look on them. Cassie and Rachel started doing it too because of how much it annoys Marco, so whenever anyone except Jake or Marco makes a joke, whoever’s nearest high-fives them.

Sometimes Cassie and Rachel do it after saying something really mundane and Marco is going crazy trying to figure out what the joke was.

Deadpan high five is peak comedy go on

Ax: It is not a high-five

Marco: It was! I just saw it!

Ax: But the ‘five’ in high-five refers to five human fingers, which neither I nor Tobias have. So it is either a high-seven or a high…

Tobias: One? Zero?

Ax: High-zero, depending on whom you are referring to.

Heys! I know I went into one of my silent stages again with life stress, but have still been working on stuff in the background between commissions and project ideas!

Have a little bit of fanart in place of something more finished! I haven’t taken a stab at drawing these high-strung, paranoid, sweets-loving fuzbutts in over ten years, and figured I’d try some ideas on them.

Putting a single blade on a short-ish tail and stubby stalks just didn’t make any sense considering what I remember reading in the stories (stalks are wiggly and constantly moving, tail can reach a considerable distance in front of the body, etc), and of course, continuing the toe count into the body as well. Not to mention.. a thorny, sawblade thagomizer whip-tail is a far more intimidating weapon for a flighty grazer than a single butcher knife of a blade.

Oh, that’s neat! Kind of reminds me of my chemistry teacher from highschool, actually.

woah i LOVE THIS

I’m here for Andalites with thagomizer tails and many toe-hooves.

What do andalites do with their arms

They weave flower crowns with them.

I picture them tucked into there sides like a munchkin cat when they stand up.
