Day 9 of our Spotlight Count down posts we will be sharing with you the lovely Fashion called Hanbok
A Hanbok (South Korean) or Joseon-ot (North Korean) is a traditional Korean dress for semi-formal or formal attire during traditional occasions such as festivals, celebrations, and ceremonies. It is characterized by vibrant colors and simple lines without pockets. Although the term literally means “Korean clothing”, hanbok usually refers specifically to clothing of the Joseon period. Korea had a dual clothing tradition in which rulers and aristocrats adopted different kinds of mixed foreign-influenced indigenous styles while commoners preserved a distinct style of indigenous clothing, today known as hanbok. Hanbok is classified according to its purposes: everyday dress, ceremonial dress, and special dress. Ceremonial dresses are worn on formal occasions, including a child’s first birthday, a wedding, or a funeral. Special dresses are made for shamans and officials. Hanbok (Hangul: 한복;Hanja: 韓服) is the traditional attire of the Korean people. It was worn daily up until just 100 years ago. Now, it is only worn on festive occasions or special anniversaries.
While the traditional hanbok was beautiful in its own right, the design has changed slowly over the generations. The core of hanbok is its graceful shape and vibrant colors, it is hard to think of hanbok as everyday wear but it is slowly being revolutionized through the changing of fabrics, colors and features, reflecting the desire of people.
Women’s Traditional Hanbok consist of jeogori, which is a shirt or a jacket, and chima dress, which is a wrap around skirt that is usually worn full. A man’s hanbok consists of jeorgori (jacket) and baggy pants that are called baji.
Day 8 of our Spotlight Count down posts we will be sharing with you the lovely Fashion called Decora!
Decora fashion is a Japanese fashion subculture that started in the late 1990s. Many say that it peaked in the mid-2000s. Decora is characterized by brightly colored clothing and accessories. Decora wearers collect eye-catching accessories such as hair clips, bracelets, necklaces, stuffed animals and bags and use them to decorate their look! Decora is meant to be loud with many components and accessories. Layering accesories and clothes is a staple in decora fashion and is a must to pull off the Decora look!
Day 7 of our Spotlight Count down posts, we will be sharing with you the lovely Fashion called Shironuri~
Shironuri translates to ‘painted in white’ in Japanese. Originally the term referred to the white face paint alone but now has evolved to include different fashion elements. The only rule of Shironuri is to sport a white face, however many couple the style with traditional Japanese fashion elements (Kimonos, Hakama, etc). Many Shironuri wearers draw inspiration from other styles, such as Gothic, Lolita, Victorian style, as well as dark and horror themed coordination. Shironuri fashion has recently sported a spirited style. Inspiration may also come from nature or human conflicts such as war.
