The halls of the Whittingham Asylum, established in 1873 abandoned in 1995. Serious accounts and complaints of abuse, fraud, cruelty and mis-treatment arose in 1967. By 1968, the largest complaints were addressed to the Hospital Management Committee including accounts of patients being locked outside, in cupboards or washrooms, patients being left untreated, patients being dragged by their hair when not obeying, patients being hit, patients only receiving bread and jam or slop to eat, that some wards were infested with vermin and some wards were too hot, too cold or damp. Embezzlement and petty theft were also occurring in the hospital and it was noticed in 1968 that £91,000 were issued as spent for patients yet only £42,000 had been on record by the hospital. After this the Matron and Head Male Nurse retired early, two male nurses were convicted of theft and another nurse was imprisoned for assaulting an elderly patient who died after the attack.
Happy new year, everyone. A piece of mine was published on No Escape, and looks at six specific spots from Dark Souls’ environments which interest me. Included are photographs I took of the game as part of my “CRT Souls” series.
Since it may be a long while until I return to this series, entitled Putting Names to Built Things, which looks at the environments of the Dark Soulsseries,Bloodborne, and Sekiro and identifies their structural and decorative elements, I wanted to create a post which indexes the entries so far for ease of sharing and reference.
Three of my pieces are now available for order as 8" x 10" prints! Each is a cross-section of an imaginary architectural space inspired, in part, by the exploratory format for the later 2D Castlevania titles, such as Symphony of the Night. Each was done using colored pencil, pen, watercolor, and marker on paper. All originally are small-scale, too, perhaps no larger than 6″ x 4″.
Visited the Statue of Liberty Museum today and was able to capture the reflection of the Statue of Liberty beautifully lined up with One World Trade Center, formerly known as Freedom Tower. Talk about a powerful double meaning!

“Myriad of” concepts, ideas, drawings, notes refers to a vast outburst of creativity. The paper is specifically chosen as to effortlessly release such state of mind. The pocket size notebook is a fusion of three types of papers- tracing paper used for architectural and industrial drawing, solid brown paper ideal for an immediate and spontaneous croquis and sketches, and a recycled plain paper section serves as an ideal spot for taking notes and/or writing memos. All these papers are bounded in a charcoal black cover with a minimum of graphic intervention.
