On May 19, 2022, the first trial will be held in Dnepropetrovsk on the merits of the charges against left-wing activist Alexander Matyushenko.

Alexander was detained on March 3 with the use of violence by representatives of the Security Service of Ukraine and the Nazi formation Azov.

First, Matyushenko was accused of “waging an aggressive war” (Article 437 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). This article provides for imprisonment from 7 to 12 years.

But, obviously, realizing that it would be very difficult to prove such guilt of Alexander in court, even in the conditions of chauvinistic hysteria deployed by the Kyiv authorities, the prosecutor’s office offered a deal.

The essence of the deal is Alexander pleads guilty to “encroachment on the territorial integrity of Ukraine” and receives 3 years in prison.

Article 110 in recent years has been very often applied to bloggers and other dissidents who express an opinion that differs from official propaganda.

Also, those accused under this article often became the subject of an exchange between official Kyiv, on the one hand, and Moscow, Donetsk and Lugansk, on the other.

Alexander signed the deal and, apparently, on May 19, a trial will be held to charge him precisely under Article 110.

Alexander Matyushenko has been under arrest since March 3, 2022.

We remind you that Alexander’s family needs funds, including to pay for the services of a lawyer.

The Defence Ministry in Moscow announced on Friday that a total of 2,439 “Azov Nazis” and Ukrainian servicemen had laid down their arms since May 16, and that the entire Azovstal complex is now under control of Russian forces.
