Ghada Sabatin, a half-blind 47-year-old widow and a mother of six, was fatally shot by an Israeli soldier on Sunday, April 10th 2022. She was crossing the street in Husan near Bethlehem and did not heed to calls and warning shots by the soldiers to stay back. One then shot her in the thigh at close range. A search of Ghada’s body found no weapon. The soldiers of the occupation force denied her medical help.

Christmas scene in a 15th century manuscript

Christmas scene in a 15th century manuscript by e-codices

Christmas, also known as Nativity, refers to the accounts of the birth of Jesus mainly based on the Gospels of Matthew and Luke. Traditionally, scenes of Nativity, portray the Holy Family in the stable at Bethlehem. The Christ child is represented lying in a manger or upon the straw, whilst Virgin Mary kneels in adoration before Him. In some scenes Virgin Mary is represented lying next to Jesus. Joseph is portrayed standing at one side. The scene also includes depictions of an ox and a donkey, usually in the background, gazing quietly at the scene in front of them. Some Nativity scenes depict one or more angels who proclaim Jesus as the savior for all people, and portrayals of shepherds who come to adore Him. There are also scenes representing the wise men (The Maggi ) who, after following a star, arrive to Bethlehem to bring gifts to Jesus.

ekalita-blr:

“ “Stay close to me,” Aziraphale said quickly, moving so that he and Crowley were standing almost nose-to-nose, except that they both had turned their heads to the side, the better to listen to Gabriel’s voice. Crowley’s breaths were fast and shallow, and he must have noticed it himself, because after a moment he stopped breathing altogether. “

ADVENT CALENDAR DAY 25

Raymond and Mildred Pitcairn pose for their 1954 Christmas card picture beside the Days of Creation fireplace in Glencairn’s Upper Hall. The Bryn Athyn Historic District Archives, Bryn Athyn, PA.

A life-size oil painting of the Adoration of the Shepherds (Luke 2:15–20) hung above the fireplace in Glencairn’s Upper Hall for many years. The painting was based on an illustration in The Christ Child, a children’s book by Maud and Miska Petersham. The Petershams, a husband-and-wife team, were well known in the first half of the 20th century as illustrators and authors of children’s literature. Raymond and Mildred Pitcairn loved the Petershams’ illustrations, and in the late 1930s they commissioned artist Frank Snyder to paint the large interpretation of the illustration from The Christ Child for their Bryn Athyn home.

When Glencairn became a museum in the early 1980s, Snyder’s original painting from the 1930s was found to be damaged beyond repair. In 2016 a reinterpretation of the Petersham illustration was painted by Bryn Athyn artist Edwin Herder, which now hangs above Glencairn’s fireplace each Christmas season.

Every day, from December 1 through December 25, a new work of Nativity art from the Glencairn Museum collection has appeared on the home page of our Advent calendar (Follow the Star: A 2021 Advent Calendar).

ADVENT CALENDAR DAY 7Lampshade panel illustrating the Visitation of the Shepherds, made in the late

ADVENT CALENDAR DAY 7

Lampshade panel illustrating the Visitation of the Shepherds, made in the late 1930s or early 1940s. Glencairn Museum, Bryn Athyn, PA, 11.OP.02.

This handcrafted lampshade panel illustrates the Visitation of the Shepherds. According to the Gospel of Luke, “So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, ‘Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us’” (2:15).

The panel is one of six scenes from the Nativity narrative decorating a Christmas-themed lampshade in Glencairn’s Chapel. The plexiglass shade was commissioned by Raymond Pitcairn in the late 1930s or early 1940s; it was designed and painted by Francis (“Frank”) Eugene Snyder (1908–1995). Synder painted the plexiglass with oils and other media in order to achieve the appearance and texture of stained glass when the lamp is turned on.

Every day, from December 1 through December 25, a new work of Nativity art from the Glencairn Museum collection will appear on the home page of our Advent calendar (Follow the Star: A 2021 Advent Calendar. Gospel Lk 2:15-20

When the angels went away from them to heaven,
the shepherds said to one another,
“Let us go, then, to Bethlehem
to see this thing that has taken place,
which the Lord has made known to us.”
So they went in haste and found Mary and Joseph,
and the infant lying in the manger.
When they saw this,
they made known the message
that had been told them about this child.
All who heard it were amazed
by what had been told them by the shepherds.
And Mary kept all these things,
reflecting on them in her heart.
Then the shepherds returned,
glorifying and praising God
for all they had heard and seen,
just as it had been told to them.

Gospel LK 2:16-21

The shepherds went in haste to Bethlehem and found Mary and Joseph,
and the infant lying in the manger.
When they saw this,
they made known the message
that had been told them about this child.
All who heard it were amazed
by what had been told them by the shepherds.
And Mary kept all these things,
reflecting on them in her heart.
Then the shepherds returned,
glorifying and praising God
for all they had heard and seen,
just as it had been told to them.

When eight days were completed for his circumcision,
he was named Jesus, the name given him by the angel
before he was conceived in the womb.

Gospel MT 2:13-18

When the magi had departed, behold,
the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said,
“Rise, take the child and his mother, flee to Egypt,
and stay there until I tell you.
Herod is going to search for the child to destroy him.”
Joseph rose and took the child and his mother by night
and departed for Egypt.
He stayed there until the death of Herod,
that what the Lord had said through the prophet might be fulfilled,
Out of Egypt I called my son.

When Herod realized that he had been deceived by the magi,
he became furious.
He ordered the massacre of all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity
two years old and under,
in accordance with the time he had ascertained from the magi.
Then was fulfilled what had been said through Jeremiah the prophet:

A voice was heard in Ramah,
sobbing and loud lamentation;
Rachel weeping for her children,
and she would not be consoled,
since they were no more.

“Shiloh, Bethel, Hebron, Bethlehem, so much of the Bible was recorded in Judea and Samaria that the world now calls the West Bank.”

Rabbi Gimpel said that everyone who’s a part of his community, Naveh Daniel, is a believer.

‘Every single person in the community believes in God, believes in the Bible, lives by the Bible.’

“You won’t find a town anywhere in the world where the entire town is dedicated to God, where the entire village will be religious believers,” Jeremy Gimpel proclaimed, saying that these are people who love God, fear God and live by the law of God.

“And it’s that place in particular, the West Bank, that is under the most attack from all of the nations of the world.”

“It’s that place that’s our mandate from the Bible, where all the events of the Bible were recorded in. That’s the place that the world wants to take away from the Jewish people and hand over to the Muslim terrorists,” Jeremy Gimpel explained.

So what is it about the West Bank that the world wants to take it away from the Israelis?
