thisismisogynoir:

Did you know that April is Black Women’s History Month?! Well, now you do!

That’s why I’m writing this post in honor of Moya Bailey, a Black female activist, writer, and associate director in the Department of Communications Studies at Northwestern University! She deserves special attention because she coined the word “misogynoir”(what this blog is about!) and examines how anti-Black misogyny impacts Black women’s lives, as well as how race, gender, and sexuality are represented in media and medicine. She is the author of the book Misogynoir Transformed: Black Women’s Digital Resistance, and co-author of #Hashtag Activism: Networks of Race and Gender Justice.

She is an advocate for Black women’s rights whom I greatly admire. Please check her out when you have the time and for more information, you can go to her website!

Reblog or reply to this and tell me what other Black woman hero you admire and would like to appreciate this week! Happy April!

Its still a debate between Jamaicans if she was real but I would like to recognize Queen Nanny of the Maroons
