MISSILE TOAD?

Jake let out a small grunt as the thumbtack punctured the ceiling in the archway by the foyer. “There,” he breathed out, stepping off of the step stool and admiring his work with a proud grin. The garage door rumbled, signaling your return home. Jake found a couple of beers in the fridge and cracked them open, anticipating your want for one once you were in the house.
I attended a friend’s wedding yesterday. It was beautiful, a great day. When I crawled into bed last night, I felt fine. When I woke up this morning, I was hit with the sad reality that I’m still very single, was ghosted by a potential booty call, was rubbed the wrong way by the groom asking when I was gonna find someone and that I needed to stop traveling (I travel a lot for work).
As much as I put on a brave face, there’s also a teensy part of me that’s bitter that I wasn’t asked to be part of the bridal party, knowing full well that if it was extended beyond family and two childhood friends that were practically family, I was next on the list. I can’t be upset that she prioritized family, but knowing she threatened to drop one of her sisters for me kind of stings.
I was grateful to be a part of their day, but some things still just hurt.
I cried today. A lot.
In an update to this story, she and I had a really wonderful conversation about it a couple of days after the wedding (she and hubby had honeymooned prior to the wedding and he was back to work- no interruptions).
We both agreed it was better to have the tough conversation rather than let it stew and build resentment. It’s truly a testament to the strength of our friendship. I’m eternally grateful to have someone like her in my corner.
