One day we were all out of the office; months later. some of us back in, trying to get things back to a sort of normal. I was back in. Blake, the health and safety guy, called me. He said, You’re the lead on your floor, but how come I don’t know who’s in, who’s out.” “Don’t the f..k ask me”, I said, “I don’t decide”. “Well we need to know, he says. I went down 16 40. I admitted it: we never knew where people were supposed to be. Who’s supposed to be at home. Who’s in. He grinned. “Thought not”, he said. The phone rang. “Dallock. Sit just here and answer the ’phone and answer his questions. I’ll be right behnd you”, he said.
“Hello,” I said ““Mr Dallock?”. And then it came. A sort of hard breath from behind me and as I turned, a soft, very soft leather glove over my mouth. “Shh young man” and then a pressure point on my neck and blackness.
There are two of them. I’m gagged and collared and spreadeagled against cold metal. Head throbbing. My wrists and ankles strapped to the metal. Naked. I’m shaking with cold. Funny, I don’t notice I’m naked till after I feel the straps on my wrists and ankles and the cold metal bars against my shoulder blades. And the gag. It forces my jaws out. It’s the gag that tells me that they are going to hurt me. It’s dark, but I can make out Blake’s eyes.
He says “You’ll be warm soon, son. And you’ll be glad to know that I’m putting you down for working at home for the indefinite future. And this is Mr Dallock. He’s taking over being in charge of who’s in and who’s out of the office for your floor.”
“Any questions?” says Dallock “Excuse me.” He turns and picks up something and pulls it over his head. “I like a mask. The feel of it. The smell of it. Any questions, son?
I try to swear or yell, or ask them Why or What, or something. Nothing comes bar a back of throat sound.
