fetus Hayden to remind you that life is short and time is meaningless ❤️
Chiac is an Acadian French dialect that liberally sprinkles its French sentences with English words . Lots of people in New Brunswick speak it. There’s even a Chiac-speaking superhero, Acadieman.
People have been speaking a form of Chiac for centuries, to the occasional annoyance of French and English purists. But the way New Brunswick Acadians see it, their culture is mixed– and so why not their language too? Of course they sing in Chiac too.
In France, stop signs read “Stop.” In Quebec, they read “Arrêt.” In New Brunswick, both words appear on stop signs. People there are tolerant and pragmatic.
To meet the musicians, artists, writers and regular folk who speak Chiac every day, check the latest World in Words podcast.
So watching BBC World News whilst getting ready for dinner and apparently their pop up team is in Canada.
For those who don’t know this is a team of BBC journalists who travel around looking for stories in an area or country that don’t often break the headlines.
So they’re looking for stories via Twitter. Think the hashtag is #bbcpopup but I’d check.
So any Canadians on here let them know. Be it about Mounties Vs Indigenous People or elections or anything
Thought I’d let you know.
