The Cape sundew (Drosera capensis) is a carnivorous plant that’s well-equipped to catch flies.

Its leaves are lined with tentacles that are covered in a clear glue-like liquid that helps it to entrap and digest prey. It can also curl up its leaves to put insects into even more of a bind. The Cape sundew is found in marshes in the southwestern tip of Africa.

Emersed Utricularia graminifolia flowering

This is such a lovely Utricularia set up!

The differences between Utricularia sandersonii and Utricularia sandersonii ‘Blue’ remind me of a lady standing formally and then curtsying, pulling her skirts out to the side.

It’s going to be another hot day in California with temperatures in the 90’s! The Sarracenia love it, as long as we keep them well watered.

The rim of this Sarracenia leucophylla has been delicately lined with a soft pink.

Pygmy sundews look like fireworks when viewed up close!

Our mass planting of Venus flytraps is flowering!

This tropical drosera hybrid is unfurling a few new leaves in the center. I always love how they start out so tightly curled.

This is actually one of the smaller Pinguicula flowers; it may not be as big as the other ones but it certainly makes up for that with its softly blushing violet coloration, fantastic venation and that dollop of butter yellow right at its throat!

The color of this Sarracenia x ‘Dana’s Delight’ is positively electric!

Cephalotus have a unique feature; on the interior of the trap is a bright, white, slippery collar baited with nectar. Insects hanging on the downward curving teeth attempting to get a taste of the nectar will slip and fall. Once inside, they cannot bypass the funnel shaped collar to get back out.

This large, sunset colored Sarracenia caught my eye this morning. Standout shape and form, large size and subtle yet eye catching coloration; one of my new favorites!

Nepenthes bicalcarata has a glistening drop hanging off one of its famous fangs.

While it certainly looks like a Sarracenia, psittacina does stand out amongst its brothers and sisters for its wonderfully charismatic traps and low rosettes.

I love the gentle, sophisticated curves of this Heliamphora pitcher and it’s nectar spoon.

Known for its gorgeous, luminescent, white pitchers, Sarracenia leucophylla sends up its most awe inspiring pitchers in autumn.
