Champagne Cocktail!

Ingredients:

  • 1 sugar cube
  • 5 dashes Angostura bitters
  • Squeezed lemon peel
  • 1 glass champagne (10 tablespoons)*
  • For the garnish: Lemon twist

Instructions:

  1. Make the lemon twist garnish, if using.
  2. Add a sugar cube to bottom of a champagne flute**. Add 5 dashes of bitters to the sugar cube. Use a vegetable peeler to peel off a small strip of lemon skin. Squeeze the lemon skin into the flute to release the oils.
  3. Fill the glass with champagne and serve immediately: watch how the sugar cube makes the bubbles sparkle! Garnish with a lemon twist if desired.

Notes:

*You’ll get about 5 drinks per 1 bottle of champagne.

**You can also serve this drinks on the rocks in a cocktail glass. Follow the same instructions, just place the ice in the glass with the sugar cube, then top with champagne. The drink will have a more subtle flavor.

.Pick Your Poison | The Elderflower Gintlime Fizz.

For my birthday the lovely Beth bought me a little cocktail kit and started me off on a delicious new boozy hobby! A few weeks and a shaker/muddler/strainer upgrade later I’m mastering classics left right and centre and even designing my own delicious creations…such as this summer beaut - The Elderflower Gintlime Fizz!

Shopping List:

1 shot good quality gin (Greenalls or Bombay Sapphire work well)

½ shot elderflower cordial

Handful of mint leaves

Half a lime

Good slice of cucumber (and one to garnish)

Topped up with prosecco (or champagne if you’re feelin’ fancy!)

How To:

Muddle together the mint and cucumber and squeeze in your lime. Add your gin and cordial with some ice and sh-sh-sh-shake it! Strain into a chilled martini glass, top up with fizz  and garnish with a slice of cucumber to serve!

Fresh, zesty and smooth this is the perfect English summer garden cocktail ideal for sipping outside with some cakes or alfresco nibbles.

So what are you waiting for? Get out your best gin and start shaking - Happy Friday folks!
