   “You’re scared of rats?” he demanded. “I needed you to scare it away!”

    Charmain’s focus was on the open containers of food and half-eaten dishes scattered across the room. Her heart pounded in her ears. “This is your fault. This is completely your fault for leaving food out! This is going on the IOU board!”

    “The food,” said Peter tightly, “is for Culinary Club, and I don’t hear you complaining when you’re eating it all.”

    “And you don’t see why being offered leftovers and being menaced by a ratmight provoke different reactions?”

    “Offered! Offered? They were labeled Culinary Club, do not eat!”

    “I wasn’t wearing my glasses!” she said shrilly, clutching the edges of the chair.

Here we have Howl and Sophie and their everyday routine (Howl loving being himself and Sophie mad at him), Charmain and Peter (love them), Morgan and Calcifer (best uncle/babysitter ever), and Twinkle pretending to be innocent.
