Books I Loved Reading in 2021

In 2021, I read a total of 40 books (thus far) — which is the lowest amount of books completed in a single year in about a decade. Over the past two years in particular, I’ve found it harder to focus on reading and have turned to other forms of media to fill in my entertainment needs.
However, in reading less books per year, I’ve found that the quality of books has gone up. I’ve enjoyed or…

Gentle writing advice indeed.

[Image ID: a screenshot of a tweet from Chuck Wendig that says “Gentle writing advice. Some days, writing isn’t writing. It’s just sitting and staring and thinking. Some days the work is inside and not out. You have to let that be true and not be ashamed or frustrated. You’ll get the words out. It’s okay.”

Aftermath Plot Bunny

Sinjir Rath Velus and Conder Kyl adopt a child. After the birth of Ben Solo, Conder gets a bit of baby fever and eventually convinces Sinjir to think about a child. Sinjir is against it but he is trash for Conder and really can deny him nothing.

They travel to an orphanage one day and Conder is enamored with all the wee babes. Sinjir still has no interest until he spots a little girl approximately 6yrs old sitting alone in the corner. He asks the homes attendant about her and she indicates that “that one has been returned 3 times. You don’t want her.” Apparently she has issues with anger and connecting after being abandoned by her parents. Sinjir moves along and so does the day. After a couple hours Conder asks what his partner thinks. All Sin can think of is the angry little girl that reminds him so much of himself.

“I don’t like the idea at all but if we must I want that one.” He says pointing to the girl. Conder, who was expecting more push back, readily agrees.

The rest of the story consists of Sinjir stepping up to be a father (Conder has got this shit covered). On her first day of school he tells her “remember darling, you are the brightest beam of light in this rediculous place”.

When bullies threaten her he teaches her some of his old loyalty officer tricks to get them off her back. He makes a great (if not a bit unconventional) father.

BONUS: Auntie Jas Emari. Mon Mothma dealing with her advisers equally sassy child. Snap Wexley teaching her to fly. When she’s older, babysitting a little Ben Solo.

Every now and then I just have to remind people the Aftermath series exists.
