Cancelling Canada Day is literally the bare fucking minimum symbolic gesture of basic decency , not some extreme radical position of the far left.
We’ve uncovered over a thousand unmarked graves for children, with countless more to go. What the fuck is there to celebrate?
Celebrate the founding of Canada? That’s celebrating the colonialism & white supremacy that created the systems that lead to those children’s murder & abuse.
celebrate where we are now? How many indigenous people live without clean water? How many residential school survivors are still stuck in court battles with the gov? How many indigenous people are *still* being murdered by the RCMP today?
So yeah, cancel canada day. But also, remember that’s a bare minimum and just symbolic. Fight for material change & decolonialization. Support Land Back movements, Support protests to abolish the RCMP. Give money to indigenous mutual aid networks.
and motherfuckers are still confused why there’s a nazi memorial up here after we import a bunch of nazi war criminals to “fight communism”
We can’t just remove a statue to fix this problem, when fascism’s roots have spread so deeply through out our country.
We NEED to be actively anti-fascist
I don’t know about anyone else, but I was pretty mindfucked about why this statue even existed in the first place and decided to do some further reading into it and oh boy let me tell you does this go a lot deeper than just one statue…
in fact, there’s actually a LOT of history behind the connection between Canada and importing fascism from Ukraine ….
And our current prime minister has *very* direct ties to it…
Fascism didn’t die with Hitler in that bunker. If you think this resurgence of fascism in North America came from no where, I strongly recommend reading “Ur Fascism” by Umberto Eco. It will help you pull your head out of your ass.
This isn’t just exposing some dirty blemish on Canadian history, we were literally still hiding *nazi war criminals* as recently as 2015.
As long as liberals continue to reject antifascism as some radical political extreme, fascism will never truly die.
We can’t just tear down one statue and call it a day. This is so much more than just one monument.
