So, I’m watching Ben Barnes’ costume and makeup test for Kirigan and I’m thinking Darkling Model AU. He’s some super pretentious diva going by “The Darkling” and as a rule only modelling black clothes. Alina has to work with him and is annoyed out of her mind from day one. Somebody make it happen.

They don’t get interrupted in the War room and Alina accidentally sets the Little Palace on fire. Bonus points for awkward conversation with Baghra the next day:
“How did you lose control like that? I thought I taught you better than that, girl!”
“Yeah, um, no reason. Completely random. Not triggered by anything. Just happened.”

Several months after the showdown on the skiff, Alina and Mal travel close to the Fold again. They stay for the night at a small farm. Both are shocked when they meet one of the farmhands: A man with horrible scars on his face and no memory of his past. He quickly deduces from their reactions that not only do these people know him but also that he’s not a very nice person.
After getting to know him better, Alina starts to feel differently towards this man that seems to be so different from the general, a man that he always had the potential to be, if given the chance to live a quiet life.
Mal is suspicious, thinking Kirigan is faking the whole thing.
“You cannot be serious! You think the Darkling has been shovelling pig shit FOR MONTHS on the off chance that, what, the two of us would accidentally pass by this farm in the middle of nowhere?”
“ …. Yes?”
