the fact that this art series had been rent free in my brain these past few days is very very dangerous. But, look at the great work that comes out of it.
i’m writing some of these in advance bc this is a CRAZY semester for me so,,, apologies if my responses to feedback are not as timely!
Brief Summary: Darling and Apple go cloud gazing.

“And what do you think about that one?” Darling pointed up into the sky at a lazy cloud. She and Apple had been cloud-gazing for the past hour. It wasn’t quite the exciting activity she would have planned, but Apple seemed to enjoy it.
“I’d say that’s a dragon!”
Darling groaned. “Apple, you say everything’s a dragon.”
Apple White smacked her on the arm. “I do not! I also think that a lot of them look like-”
“Apples,” Darling interrupted her. “We know.” Her gentle laugh told Apple that she wasn’t actually mad, and the two settled down again, watching the clouds roll by.
“Darling,” Apple began, then paused, collecting her thoughts. “You haven’t really said what you think the clouds look like. Aside from agreeing or disagreeing with me.”
“Oh.” Darling, paused, biting her lip. It was a nervous habit that she only showed when she was genuinely anxious. “I suppose I don’t think of myself as very creative. When it comes to imagination. I tend to see things as they are.”
“That’s not true!” Apple propped herself up on her elbow, staring into Darling’s face. “You’re amazing at painting-”
“All still lifes.”
“And the teachers all think that your creative stories are spellbinding-”
“The only problem with that is they’re all true.” Darling pressed a hand over her eyes. “Face it, Apple. I’m just not creative.”
“I’m sure it’s something you can learn.” Apple settled back into the grass, nestling up close to Darling’s side. “What do you think that one is?”
Darling deadpanned. “A cloud.”
“With four legs?” Apple gestured to the cloud’s tendrils.
“I suppose.”
Apple smiled. “And what could that be?” At Darling’s pause, she elaborated. “Four legs, and a long mane?”
“A horse?”
“Very good!” Apple rolled over onto her girlfriend and gave her a brief but tender kiss. “See, you do know how to do it.”
Darling couldn’t help but smile too. “Only because I have an excellent teacher.” She reached up and ran her fingers through Apple’s hair. She wasn’t shy about admitting that Apple really did complete her.
Darling visited Apple, pushed her down, confessed with a kiss! What could be the story behind this??

(tw: weight loss) If we had had dolls and characters with different body types, not only would we have gained parents as allies and had a step up on Disney while ACTUALLY empowering girls, we would also have been able to have storylines based on it! We could have had a storyline where Apple, who in the books is described as curvy, feels like she needs to lose weight to become the Fairest of them All like her mother and then Cupid (who in my story is shaped like a Greek statue, curves, rolls and all) tells her “Actually I was there for the first Snow White story and back then being curvy and heavy set WAS the epitome of beauty. You’re still the Fairest despite the fact that nowadays people want skinny girls”.
We could have had Raven’s height being another reason why people are intimidated by her! We could have had Smol Maddie, who in the books has to stand on her tippy toes to hug Apple! We could have had an episode where the guys all feel they need to look like bodybuilders in order to be the Handsome Storybook Princes they need to be! We could have had Hunter look like an actual strong man because he chops wood all the dang time! We could have had Dexter be shorter than Daring AND Raven for the Short King we all deserve! We could have had Couple Height Differences! We could have had a Darling Charming who TOWERED over her brothers (and her various ships!)! We could have had Royal and Rebel flavored self-acceptance (my body doesn’t affect my ability to achieve my destiny vs. my body is as deserving to be itself as I am) and it would have been so good!
In conclusion: AAAH!
This is why I love it when people draw them all with different body types <3 especially with a plus size Apple and lanky tall Raven
Although I do know that the reason they all are roughly the same is because they’re fashion dolls, and part of playing with fashion dolls is switching up their clothes and so they made them all fit the same body mold for that reason
Still like, EAH would have been so revolutionary if it went with the book bodies, but I do understand the books came by slightly after the show already aired so no going back then, at least with the main ones

Anyways after reading Semi Charming Kind of Life I can confidently say that the Charming parents win the “Worst Parent Award” and YES i do think they are worse than Snow White and the Evil Queen.
