Pictured here as the breezy, vivacious journalist Gianna Brezzi in Dario Argento’s Profondo rosso. Gianna Brezzi is my favourite giallo character and I find myself watching her scenes with an uncontrollable smile. Furthermore, the Arrow DVD restores all of the scenes deleted from the English cut so you get enjoy more of Gianna and David Hemmings’s character, Marcus, flirtously bickering. The scenes where they are speeding around Torino in Gianna’s beat-up ‘64 Fiat 500 with its busted suicide doors and broken passenger seat are especially good.
Beside the fact that I like the whole outfit, I admire the seemingly perfect angle in which the straps are crossed over the back. That can make such a big difference. I have seen (other style) garments, where angled cross straps did not lie down flat at all and kept bulging up over the shoulders. Not a pretty sight and can somewhat ruin the look of an otherwise beautiful piece of clothing. Here the straps look really nice.

Daria Nicolodi, former partner of Dario Argento and mother of Asia Argento, has passed away.
Daria starred in several of Dario Argento’s Italian horror classics, including Deep Red, Inferno, Tenebrae, Phenomena and Opera also co-wrote Suspiria.
This character is a combination of 糸 thread and 工 work. One explanation is that 工 is being used to express the meaning of 烘, due to them both having the same on’yomi, コウ. 烘 means roast or bake, but also can has a meaning of “bonfire/campfire.” Here, it is being used to express “red like fire.” Combined with 糸, it gives “threads/cloth dyed red.”
Another theory is that 工 is working phonetically to express “pink,” and possibly also the idea of a “process.” Together with 糸, this gives “(processed/dyed) pink threads.” Over time it came to mean “pink” in general, and then eventually “red/crimson/rouge.”
