“The 1561 celestial phenomenon over Nuremberg”

This is from wikipedia

“The 1561 celestial phenomenon over Nuremberg was a mass sighting of celestial phenomena or unidentified flying objects (UFO) above Nuremberg, Germany. The phenomenon has been interpreted by some modern UFO enthusiasts as an aerial battle of extraterrestrial origin. This view is mostly dismissed by skeptics, some referencing Carl Jung’s mid-twentieth century writings about the subject while others find the phenomenon is likely to be a sun dog.

A broadsheet news article printed in April 1561 describes a mass sighting of UFOs. The broadsheet, illustrated with a woodcut engraving and text by Hans Glaser, measures 26.2 centimetres (10.3 in) by 38.0 centimetres (15.0 in). The document is archived in the prints and drawings collection at the Zentralbibliothek Zürich in Zürich, Switzerland.

According to the broadsheet, around dawn on April 14, 1561, residents of Nuremberg saw what they described as an aerial battle, followed by the appearance of a large black triangular object and then a large crash outside of the city. The broadsheet claims that witnesses observed hundreds of spheres, cylinders and other odd-shaped objects that moved erratically overhead.

The broadsheet describes objects of various shapes including crosses, globes, two lunar crescents, a black spear and tubular objects from which several smaller, round objects emerged and darted around the sky at dawn.”

My next solo exhibition “Metallicus” is on January 31st

For this show I’ve picked out 20+ medieval woodcuts, etchings and pen and ink illustrations from the 1500s and gave them my psychedelic interpretation on canvass.

Metallicus explores a wide range of topics from fairy tails, astronomy, old world maps, blueprints for Davinci’s inventions, biblical imagery, and lots and lots and lots of bizarre monsters.

There are works originally from Heronimus Bosch, Leonardo Davinci, Albrecht Dürer, Martin Schongauer and many who I discovered doing research.

If you are a fan of fantasy, art history or my previous work I hope to see you at the opening.

Please check the FB event page for details and thank you.

Hello and welcome to

“Metallicus”, my big mythological renaissance fantasy art show.

It’s my homage to the art of the 1500s.

I’ve always loved medieval period ink print illustrations and for this show I’ve picked out a bunch to do my own artistic interpretations of. Each piece is from an actual woodcut, etching or pen and ink illustration from 500 years ago.

Some topics include fairy tails, astronomy, old world maps, blueprints for Davinci’s inventions, biblical imagery, a wild assortment of strange monsters.

There are works from Heronimus Bosch, Leonardo Davinci, Albrecht Dürer, Martin Schongauer and a lot who I discovered while doing research for the show.

I wanted to use a very specific color palette for this body of work including lots and lots of metallic paint. The metallics are a standout visual factor. Every painting has some area that’s saturated in gold, bronze, copper or silver. Typical backgrounds are copper skies with gold clouds or bronze oceans with silver ripples.

I knew right away that I was going to spend a lot of time on the show.

Every piece is predominantly linework and I wanted each line to ooze confidence. Nine months of long nights were spent tiny brush noodling in the studio. It’s the most I’ve ever worn my glasses.

I created Metallicus as a loving tribute to an incredible century for art history. I wanted to honor the craftsmanship of the originals and put in as much attention to detail as possible.

Some of the original works I’ve been a fan since I bought framed Xerox copies as a 80s teenager at the Renesance festival. Other artists were newly stumbled upon like the grear Pieter van der Borcht who is a current obsession.

About 90% of the show is medieval themed. There’s also a couple Bowies, a Harriet Tubman tribute and I refurbished two older pieces. Even though their content is different, they all share the same color palette.

I’m excited about the show. It came out way better then how I had it in my head. I’m excited for everyone to see this work in person (I could not get one jpeg that I was happy with). And I’m really excited to start painting the next show which will be a sequel.
